What I like best about this guitar:The comfortable size and weightThe easy access electronicsA modern fast neck with upper fret accessSolid wood top, sides and bottom: no laminateIt sounds like a Martin, like a smaller version of my D-35A lot of highend features for a fair priceI which it came with a hardshell case but the soft case it comes with is well made

Well I am 63 year that have played at playing a guitar since I was 16. I never could play anything but a C,G and D and very bad at strumming much less picking. Last year I started a journey to actually learn how to play. I have taken personal lessons from a professional musician and currently are using a couple of internet courses. I started with a Seagull Flaming Maple Performer CW QIT. It is a beautiful guitar and chose it for the 1.8 nut. I have fat short fingers and currently suffer from carpal tunnel on my fretting hand until surgery. I am also a large guy. So the Seagull is a big heavy guitar. I started looking for a smaller parlor that would fit me better. I looked at several different kinds and was about to get a Zager just based on their hype. I trust James Rawson at Rawson Music in OKC so I called him. I told him my situation. I asked him about Zager and my thoughts and after a discussion he said I have a Martin that is the easiest playing guitar in the country and I can set it up with really low action. I went in and looked at several models. Looked at a couple of models made in Mexico and they were really nice. More pretty than the GPC but when he put the GPC in my hands and strummed it I realized that I had found the guitar I was looking for and needed in order to progress in thru my journey. All wood and made in Nazareth it is a great value. I have always wanted a J45 but after playing several with the 1.72 nut and then playing the Martin that has the 1.75 nut and the low oval performance neck there is really no comparison. I have found a friend to take on my journey and now I love to pick it up. My abilities are progressing and I am starting to achieve my life long dream of playing the guitar for real........GPC16E is a absolutely great guitar for anyone from a stage performer singer/songwriter or just a ole campfire guy like me.

Overall:I intended this to be a backup for my Martin M-36. I didn’t expect it to be in same league as a standard series Martin. Well let me tell you... I was pleasantly surprised! This guitar, despite its lower price, holds its own with the M-36. It’s a true Martin through and through. It won’t give you the booming bass of a Dreadnaught, but it’s not intended to. It’s a very versatile all around guitar... great for finger style as well as strumming. The controls are very intuitive and the Fishman system sounds great through my Fishman Loudbox mini. A built-in tuner would be a nice edition, but it’s not a deal breaker for me (I deducted one star in the features category due to the lack of a built-in tuner). Bought this GPC16E as a road worthy gigging guitar for lead guitar as it has a smooth cutaway and the fishman pickup is very responsive. Surprisingly, it has the classic Martin tone of a D28, nice, rich bass but never muddy, and ever present treble highs. I Highly recommend the GPC16E for beginner, intermediate or advanced player.
The Guitar will need the Saddle lowered for betterPlaying performance and some neck tweaking. After that it will certainly be easy to play. IfYou buy it at the store get the guitar Tech toSet it up before you leave. I find that even lotsOf expensive guitars also need some sort ofAdjustment when new. After all that with lightGauge Strings it's easier to play. I bought it toHave an acoustic guitar plugged in. Keeping itHumidified with the sound hole Humidifier willReally make it sound nice. Inside the sound holeWhere the guitar plugs in is a red LED to tell youThe 9-volt Battery is working. The Tuner is a mustAnd mutes the guitar when turned on in Sound hole.Keep in mind it's a smaller guitar so smaller soundUnplugged but really cool sound. I still have it a 5Cause even with small issues I got it to performVery nicely.
I had always heard about Martin guitars and what they say about them. But having a number of good quality guitars, I had my favourites and thought nothing could really be much better, if at all. This was until I bumped into a friend who said she had bought one and let me try it out. That moment was the moment that everything changed.. I did a little bit of research and got myself over to Andertons where they so carefully, handled and showed me the GPC -16 E. I was totally mind struck by the full colour of tone and depth and superb craft quality. Really, there was nothing to say, it played itself and spoke for itself and I bought it. The best musical purchase I have ever made. It's such a fulfilling and rewarding thing, not just to hear and play, but to handle too. Nothing you can say, it's just there, the pure essence of the ages. The best thing I ever owned!
I've returned two of these and now considering returning the third. Martin QA is gone. This one I have the nut was cut wrong and had slippage on the 1st string when you do a pull off. Pretty ridiculous. You can't find a hard shell case for these, at least not the case Martin recommends for it, it does not exist in the real world. Instead they give you a cheap soft shell case. I know there are more expensive guitars, who cares, the guitar is still not cheap. The first one sounded amazing off the wall, but there were neck issues and so could not be set up properly. Order another, that one sounded like garbage. This one, the nut issue, the case issue, fret buzzes or electronics inside buzzing. Should be a great guitar, but no such luck. Looking to upgrade my guitar, I looked high and low for a quality instrument that fit my budget. I found this Martin GPC at the Sam Ash in NYC, and spent a few hours with it. A few weeks later I came back and it was still there. A few weeks later I watched the old Jimi Hendrix documentary, and then couldn't sleep because thoughts of this guitar kept me awake. I went the next day and bought it. At first, it seemed the staff had an unusual attitude, a little kurt and a little bit rude. After a while talking to them, and making the purchase, they became quite friendly and amiable. When I came back a week later to adjust the truss rod, my experience was the same, like they were uninterested and didn't care, but lo and behold, they seemed to just touch the instrument and ... MoreLooking to upgrade my guitar, I looked high and low for a quality instrument that fit my budget. I am approaching one year of learning and playing guitar. I recently retired and wanted to purchase something nice and sounded good. Being that I play left handed, it is very hard to find left handed guitars in stock to get an idea of sound and playability. After visiting about a dozen guitar stores in my area, I found a right handed GPC-16E and managed to strum a few chords and pick a few strings. Immediately the tone and ease of hitting chords drew my attention to this guitar. I called Martin and asked who in the "country" had a LH GPC-16E in inventory. The very helpful representative told me there was one in Tennessee and one in Michigan. She also told me that Sam Ash had one in transit going to their warehouse. I purchased this guitar eighteen months ago and it sounds better every month. I believe the thin finish is allowing the wood to breathe and age faster. I case store it and maintain the room humidity@ 45-55%.I play outside a lot and can't control the humidity there but high 60-90% doesn't seem to affect it other than a tuning tweak.I had a custom setup for a lower buzz free action. Friends with older higher end Martins love the neck and action. Unplugged it has a bit less bass and volume than a dreadnought, but that is to be expected with a smaller, more comfortable size. I'm considering ordering another one either with the mahogany body or the special with the burst body. I'm not a collector but do log many hours a week playing. Of course the 35 is#1, but sometimes there are places and situations where I'm more comfortable taking the 16 ,(at approximately half the cost) Tremendous little guitar, check it out, I believe you'll be very satisfied!.
