I was looking for a portable box to take to hob sites with me that would contain the basic tools I need to diagnose and repair cnc machinery. I had seen these in the store before but when I went to buy it, they were only available online. I knew I wasn't going to need the full depth of the foam so I ended up making 2 layers of tool space. There are 2 distinct levels of foam with thinner layers in each. I was not cutting all the way through the foam so I had to peel the layers apart. This wasn't the easiest thing to do but it came out pretty nice. I have some of the other PACKOUT boxes that are the same size, but this box is lighter which was a nice discovery. After loading a many tools into it as I could, any reduced weight is appreciated.

As you can tell by the pics, I'm a fan and believer in the PACKOUT line of boxes. If you're using Milwaukee tools, you've made an investment in your gear. If you want to protect your investment, you should be putting it in the PACKOUT boxes. Sometimes I drive to the project and other times I'm flying and I don't think twice about my gear arriving in one piece. You have so many options of how you want to protect your gear, purchase additional foam if you want to change what gear you want to carry together. The foam insert will even fit in the large toolbox, which is what I use when I fly. The boxes are very well made, materials are strong, but yet lightweight. The biggest drawback on the PACKOUT line is.....once you buy one piece, you can't stop at 1.

I know that if I don't have what I need in the case when I'm doing a job, I'm going to forget something. Forgetting things cost time and money. So , honestly these cases cost you less to have than not to have them. Then there is the added benefit of being able to use the custome cut outs to make sure nothing is left behind at the job site. Blow molded cases don't provide this level of customization and tool accountability.

First, I will say I own many of these, they are nice too cases. I replaced many other bags, and cases from other tools with these.CONS: -1.) These cases do NOT fit the other tool organization from the other packouts. This is a big deal for the way I had intended use them. I wanted to place fasteners or accessories that go with the tool I am using the case for, in one of the leftover tool trays or organizers from other pckout boxes. For instance, a tray to hold brad nails in my brad nailer case, or a tray to hold grinding discs in my grinder case.. etc.. etc.. you get the point. For this reason, I had to use the "small toolbox" and buy kaizan inserts separately for each of my nailers, staplers, grinders, etc... This tool tray issue I feel is a fairly large oversight that makes these less compatible with the rest of the packout line.2.) I would like to see an option for a manual/receipt to be stored in the lid. Afterall, this model is made to be tool cases for expensive tools, not just organizers.3.) I have yet to find ANY labels that stick to the packouts long term.. If somone else has ideas please share! These things need labels!4. I have included a few photos to explain. the first two show the "accessory tray" issue. The third shows how I use the 'small toolbox' and a foam insert instead of the these, to solve that issue. The 4th pic. of the press tool case shows an example where I found this style case to be perfect.
So far it is exactly what I needed. I bought two of these and watched a couple of videos on how to trim up the foam, seemed pretty straight forward. The first one I carved out was a bit of a mess and then I tried some thing different on the tpms scanner. I traced it out cut the perimeter out and then basically diced up the center that’s going to be removed and it made it 100% easier to remove the sections of foam I needed to remove
Excellent product. Not only game changing but generational changing. The modular design, with everything plugging together, rigidity, customizable internals, makes price must have. The kizan foam inserts are a nice touch. Only draw back is price point. Kizan foam adder to overpriced tool box is hard pill to swallow. Don’t get me wrong, I personally own 14 of model 48-22-8450. Worth the money, yes. That’s why only 4 stars
I bought two of these, one for my hand planes and one for my 18 gauge nailer and M12 stapler. Nice neat way to protect this stuff. The handplanes cost me a pretty penny, so organizing them and storing them in the foam box made great sense. All of my main planes - low angle jack, no. 4 smooth, block, cab chisel and rabbit - all fit nicely. Most importantly, the seal on the case really slows rust formation on the blade steel if I forget to wipe them down when putting them back. The box with my nailer fits both he nailer and stapler, with just enough room to fit my refills in a corner.
This was my 2nd PACK-OUT with custom foam insert. It takes some time to slowly cut out the shapes, and I had to use glue in some places to put the foam layers back where they belong, but in the end it looks GREAT! Once you have more than one, the PACK-OUT cases snap together so they stack PERFECTLY (OC guy here) and if you own the Rolling Tool Box or 2-Wheel Cart, they can be rolled into the job site. This family of engineered storage units are AMAZING! Somebody at Milwaukee definitely did their homework.
Tough plastic. Buckles are very strong. Hoping it holds out to outside elements. I don't know about this plastic cracking in cold winter months. This foam box is a very nice addition to my Milwaukee tools and cases. Following the cutting of the foam to fit all my tools, I still have one empty space for yet another battery and I also added two more batteries and some bits that I use often. Just make an x mark in the foam with a knife and stick the bits in.This box can hold a lot but lay all your tools out carefully prior to cutting. I used the large fillet knife (in the pic) for the first cut around each tool one at a time. After this first outline cut I removed the tool and pulled back a couple layers of packing. I used the large fillet knife (in the pic) for the first cut around each tool one at a time. After this first outline cut I removed the tool and pulled back a couple layers of packing. Then I continued cutting foam with the small knife to go all the way through. It worked well for me this way instead of tracing I cut around the tool then removed it out of the way to continue my cuts accurately. The batteries require cutting foam almost all the way to the bottom of the foam. You will notice the tool only require the half layer of foam to be removed not all the way to the bottom of the box. It peels off in layers. I just bought another one for a worker so I can keep my tools safe and secure instead of throwing them in a 5 gallon bucket banging them around like he was. Its also easy access grab the box and get to work quickly! I bought the roller box also and will review that one soon. .
I have bought a few packouts and they all stink. Even there coolers. I wouldn't put my food in there coolers. There's no reason they should smell, I've bought coolers from other companies and they didn't stink at all. What is milwaukee doing here? Cheap plastic or something else?
