A very worthwhile tool

I have tried several different tools (jigs) and methods to sharpen HSS drill bits, but the Multi-Sharp always produces the best results on my smaller bits. It's straightforward to set up and use, and provided drill bits haven't lost their temper through overheating, the sharpened bits cut as well as when new, and sometimes better.

Have just tried this tool with surprisingly satisfactory results. I'm a mechanic with 30 years experience at trade and have offered plenty of curses to drill bits that have worn or snapped at the most inconvenient moments. Now, I'm NOT saying the drill bits I just sharpened were absolutely perfect, but... This tool would definitely come in handy for those fellow tradesmen who work from a van for example, to quickly dress tools in an emergency, when working away from home or a workshop. I used a cordless drill to operate the grinding wheel, and suggest you ensure you adjust the alignment of the tool and power tool if you have to, to avoid possibly causing damage to this tool - power tools, their housings and batteries vary in size as we all know. Until then, this one will reside in my box of handy tools. I watched a video demonstration of this tool on a certain popular social media channel, and having just given this a try, I would agree with this chap and give this tool a 'thumbs up".

Seen several reviews on this product on facebook and must agree that it is a great piece of kit. Sharpened lots of old hss drill bits and masonry ones and they came out very well. Also did a bunch of bits for my neighbour as well and it is still going strong. I decided to buy a spare wheel which should now last for ages. Recommended

I would like to say it’s brilliant but I can’t. It’s a great idea and it works, but I’m an engineer and like to think I know what I’m doing but it still took me a while to fathom out the instructions and do a couple of tests.Once mastered however I had put an edge back on most of my HSS and Wood Bits saving a considerable amount of time and money. It’s not really any use for HSS bits under 4mm or over 13 and the bit holder limits you to the length of the bits to be sharpened.I wasn’t able to use it on many of my 1/4” drive bits that fit my Impact Driver as they were too short to fit the bit holder and reach the grindstone.Overall it’s earned a place in the toolkit as it’s a useful device to save those blunt HSS bits but probably not fool proof.Useful, but ... MoreI would like to say it’s brilliant but I can’t. Poorly designed
23 September 2022

So, the positives. The sharpening wheels are good quality and more than capable of tackling HSS bits. The angling mechanism works well once you have the knack. The negatives. It is essentially a lump of plastic with cheap plastic fittings. This might have worked better if the brackets that hold the spindle in place were not ill-fitting plastic brackets too. The power of the drill just rips them out of the body and wrecks them making this unusable.Avoid this and buy something better designed and more robust.

Too Involved to be worth using

I read the instructions and decided that it wasn't worth the time and trouble to set it up so returned it to Screwfix unused. I was particularly unimpressed by the instructions indicating when you have incorrectly sharpened the drill bit - I thought the tool would have automatically sharpened correctly.

Very imprecise.
19 March 2022

I'd seen a youtube video on this type of bit sharpener and having read the Screwfix reviews, I thought I'd give it a go. Firstly, the instructions are very poor but my major criticism is that it's so imprecis. It compises of push fit plastic parts and the wobble and movement when in use is rediculous. The best example of this is that after setting the drill bit, you must check it against a diagram. I tried dozens of times and not once was the drill bit in the correct position. I persevered, trying several diferent drill bits and even when I did get it to look right, during the sharpening process there's too much movement in the assembly and I couldn't get the finished cut to the correct angle. I'll go back to buying replacements bits when necessary. a great little helper to save lots of $$ on new drills
28 August 2021

My son, a builder, bought this for me as I'm retired and had a lot of drills that are past their prime. I took time to look at YOUtube presentations and csrefully look at how this item works before trying it out. I am pleasantly surprised at just how well it works. It won't last forever of course, but I've sharpened over 100 drill bits now and counting, thus saving throwing away expensive drills into landfill. Some people won't have the skill set or patience in this age of immediate gratification to perfect its use - but for those who do this little tool could be exactly what you need.

they still make these?

I got one of these from my dad, maybe 20 + years ago, and i can't believe they are still made!. It's exactly the same!Once you decipher the instructions, it does actually work. Pity they are made from plastic though. It'd get better reviews made from something with a little more strength. But it does work.
