I love the recyclable and minimal waste packaging. and the sustainably sourced high quality meats.butdoesnt matter what i love, the cat just wont eat it at all. Ive presented it with her normal wet food, and she just eats her normal wet food, I presented it by itself, she didnt eat at all that morning and had to feed her other food that night. she did eat some of a serving, but after that wouldnt eat it at all.Personally, probably wont spend the money on this food again. But i hope others give it a try as every cat is different and we need more sustainable options for every aspect in life.

I had never heard of Open Farm before doing some online research several month ago into cat foods. I was looking for a wet cat food with high-quality ingredients from a company that was transparent about its ingredients and sourced them from farms where the animals were raised more ethically, sustainably, and humanely than animals raised for/used in most other premium cat foods. The Open Farm company kept showing up at the top of lists and appeared to meet my criteria really well. Its price was relatively compatible with the wet food I had been feeding my cat in the past (Wellness) so I decided to give it a try. Something to be aware of: It comes in a lined pouch/box sort of thing, not a can. Again, different, but just fine once you get used to the difference. The container, once opened, can be stored in the fridge without a traditional cover (the top folds back up, creating its own cover). I'm wondering if this sort of packaging is more environmentally friendly than traditional cans, but haven't looked further into this. In any event, the square containers are more efficient and space-saving to store than cans. Altogether review: A + - I've found my new go-to cat food.

Sam has food allergies and I suspect because of that he has become a very fussy eater. He has reacted to this food with a zeal I haven't seen for many years. Is fur is growing back, the scabs are mostly healed, and he is no longer exhausting himself with the constant grooming he does when food makes his skin itch. He is more active, playful, more loving (not sure how that was possible), braver, sassier, more like the raw cat he used to be before food became a nightmare because his food allergies have only gotten worse with age.The containers are a waxed paper with a foil like waxed inner layer that I hope is not plastic sealing in all that wonderful gravy/stew. I am particularly fond of this packaging and wish more pet food manufacturers did something less harmful ...Β MoreSam has food allergies and I suspect because of that he has become a very fussy eater. Leo absolutely loves this food. It's a winner! He's pretty enthusiastic about food in general, but when we ran out of the wet for a few days before our new order arrived, and then I got some cheaper wet food, his previous favorite, and then the new order came, and I offered both kinds of wet side by side, he did not hesitate to eat the Open farm first. As he should, since it's five times more expensive. I like knowing he's getting all the omegas. At first he managed to eat around the boys of carrot and something else granular, maybe lentils, but he's stopped doing that. Maybe because i cut back on how much I'm feeding him, as i realized I was feeding him almost double the calories he needs. π
I changed to Open Farm wet cat food a couple of months ago (from previously buying the Blue Buffalo Tastefuls cans and the Purina Beyond cans) and I'm extremely pleased so far!!! I have a senior cat (13+) and she's quite picky and some previous wet foods (e.g. Purina) don't agree with her (poops can be rather pale etc). So I decided to switch to Open Farm and I am really really pleased with it so far. I got the Herring and Mackerel wet blend as well as the Chicken and Salmon. My pros and cons are below:(1) My cat LOVES this food (Herring and Mackerel). SO MUCH. She is scratching at the counters while I put it in her bowl and eats so much more than she previously did. She's so much more energetic (which makes me happy as she's elderly) and has gone from wanting to ...Β MoreI changed to Open Farm wet cat food a couple of months ago (from previously buying the Blue Buffalo Tastefuls cans and the Purina Beyond cans) and I'm extremely pleased so far!!! My pros and cons are below:(1) My cat LOVES this food (Herring and Mackerel). SO MUCH. She is scratching at the counters while I put it in her bowl and eats so much more than she previously did. She's so much more energetic (which makes me happy as she's elderly) and has gone from wanting to play less than once a day to multiple times a day. Her poops look very healthy as well.(2) I love that the cartons are large (155 ml = almost 2x the size of a can) so I am producing much less waste, and the packaging makes it easy to vary portion sizes. (Tip: if you cut open the carton it's easier to get all the food out and flat pack for recycling).(3) If you take in to account that the cartons are almost 2x the size of a normal store bought can of food (155 ml vs 85ml), the price isn't that much more expensive but has much higher quality ingredients. Like you can see that it's human grade food (visible normal looking meat, lentils, pumpkin etc.)(4) The customer care people have been great every time I have contacted themCons:None! Sort of. Only downsides are that the packaging is mildly annoying to flatpack for recycling, but that's so minor I don't really care. Also, my cat doesn't love the chicken and salmon flavour (she is picky) so I will swap that out for the next autoship, but she's still very energetic either way.
Only 3 stars because of how high the carbohydrate percentage is in this wet food. I would expect a kibble to have things like chickpeas and lentils in the recipe but they are unnecessary in a wet cat food. Since cats are obligate carnivores this makes this recipe not species appropriate.Agar agar is used in this recipe instead of gums as a binder which I like. Having it in there would allow the removal of the starches all together to make this food more species appropriate. The premium price of this food made it surprising to me that fillers like chick peas and lentils were used at all. I was also surprised at how runny the food was considering the high carb content.I don't love the tetra packs. I found them a bit difficult to get all of the food out of them ...Β MoreOnly 3 stars because of how high the carbohydrate percentage is in this wet food. If this was a dog food it would get a higher rating for sure. All in all I think this is a great company and would be excited to see their wet cat food recipes change in order to decrease the carbohydrate percentage.
I have been feeding open farms exclusively for over a year. At first both of my cats would lick their bowls clean. I've found the food consistency changes with every order. What I mean is the thickness, amount of moisture, and overall mix of veggies and meat. My girls will eat on average ,half of what I feed them. It's Not that they're not hungry, they eat the liquid part . They prefer the soupy, thinner consistency. When it's thicker and chunkier they won't eat it. I consider this a "premium" cat food at 4$ a serving. Open farms is awesome to work with. If you let them know your pets are unhappy with the food they will promptly ship you a replacement with no questions asked. I've actually done that 4-5 times. I'm not comfortable being that customer that constantly complains. It's 1 out of every 3-4 orders my cats will eat as fully. I'm ordering this food 1-2 times a month at 80-90$ an order. I can't afford to throw half of it away (which is what I'm doing)I've been searching for another brand I can switch to. I'm not bashing open farms. I think since their food is all natural and all that they are unable to make a consistent product. Cats are picky.
I love the clean ingredients list and the fact the animals are humanely raised and you can trace the ingredients back to the source. The reason for three stars is one- the consistency. It is more like a soup and mush- they ground up the meat and it's not appealing- not to me and not to my cats. The wet food I gave them before was chunks of meat in gravy. So consistency-wise, this is a major downgrade even if everything else about it is an upgrade. My cats refuse to eat it since it doesn't look appetizing and compare to what I was feeding them before. Needless to say, this will be a one-time purchase. Had I know this was the consistency of the product, I would not have purchased. Hoping Open Farm releases a formula in the future that is actual chunks of meat in gravy ...Β MoreI love the clean ingredients list and the fact the animals are humanely raised and you can trace the ingredients back to the source. Compared to other wet foods that we've fed our cat, the ones from Open Farm sadly don't seem to be his favorite. He eats them most of the time but doesn't seem to be as excited or that interested in eating it. I'm not sure if it's the texture or the smell. They are fairly liquidy and definitely have a different smell, smells kind of sweet or something, compared to his other favorite canned foods. He quite often leaves some of it behind and doesn't eat the lentils or veggie chunks unless he's really hungry. I also don't really like using the cartons unfortunately, it's harder to get all the food out from the bottom of the carton with the small corners, I find cans are way more enjoyable to use. He really loves all the dry food from Open Farm though!
This wet food is a hit with our clouder of 4! It really is one of the wet foods they get most excited about. It's a little more wet and 'soupy' than other brands, but thats a good thing....more hydrating! We incorporate a small amount of the dry kibble with shared wet containers at meals. We do have one picky eater, who has previously turned her nose up to other wet brands. And, we have an older cat with a senstive stomach, who has not had an issue with this food at all! My only complaint is: the packaging. I love the concept of the packaging for environmental freindliness. However, the only way to not waste and leave food behind in the container is to unfold all 4 tucked corners to be able to squeeze like a tube (this actually takes effort, since the bottom corners ...Β MoreThis wet food is a hit with our clouder of 4! Also, the packages are so small. Feeding 4 cats, I am having to open multiple packages for a meal time. I wish the packaging was more user freindly and came in a larger serving option. Thanks! (so far, we have been serving the chicken/salmon-blue box and the turkey-green box).
