The OXO STL salad spinner is a very useful kitchen item in addition to its quality… ..although I have noticed that the lid of the container is a bit fragile but if I use it delicately it can last a long time…. It is a good size stainless steel container or bowl and its turning mechanism is very simple, you just have to make sure that the plastic basket is centered on the metal tip. Personally it is suggestive and appropriate for the home and I really like that it removes every last drop of water from the salad that you put inside to process. It works as described and in my personal opinion I think that the fragility of its lid is not a problem as long as you take care of it and treat it without harshness it can have a better useful life. It is handled very easily ... I had an OXO spinner for 8 years that worked flawlessly. I broke that one finally by dropping the lid and thought I would take this opportunity to upgrade to the stainless version. What a disaster! The first lid broke within 2 months. Customer Service was very responsive the first time and they sent a replacement lid out immediately. This replacement ld never worked correctly, it came apart all the time and then would lock up every time we used it, you had to stop, twist it backwards and start over. Repeat several times per use. That one finally broke also. The little gears fell out and I have been emailing and sent in a warranty claim weeks ago and am being totally ignored. Completely inexcusable.

I make salads for myself and my family probably 3-4 times a week and even if my salad comes pre-washed, I always wash it again before serving. I have learned using this salad spinner vs just wasting and straining- this is superior at drying. It is much quicker, and a full family-sized salad only took about 30 seconds to spin out all the extra water. I was super surprised how much water was left when I thought I had drained it all off! What time I saved draining off my salad, I spent picking lettuce pieces out of the basket trying to clean it: I also had to take a towel and dry in between the clear top plates after washing because of trapped moisture instead of letting it air dry- also taking more time than usual. Lastly, I like that it can hold a family-size salad, but it also takes up a very considerable amount of cabinet space for what it is. All in all, it feels extremely sturdy, heavy-duty, well made, and it’s easy to use.

Every item arrived damaged, absolutely no quality control. Dented bowl, broken colander, lid with two large cracks, and box was ripped in two areas. They definitely shipped a returned item, as the packing box was pristine. Disappointed in their quality control. Wasn't able to use it when it was needed.
This was a warranty replacement for my old salad spinner that OXO had replaced the lid but then replace the whole spinner when the basket cracked. New spinner allow you to toss and serve from the stainless bowl with out the spinning pint in the bottom. Great idea. Negative is I feel the capacity is smaller in the new one. Still I love all the OXO products I have and use every day.
Was looking forward to a product with no plastic, but instead only the bowl is stainless steel, leaving food still exposed to plastic. At that point, might as well buy the cheaper full plastic version. The stainless shouldn’t be just for aesthetic, but actually a functional product that isn’t riddled in plastics.
I purchased this salad spinner just over a year ago after having had a different one for 20 years. I was very disappointed that it didn't speed up enough to really dry the lettuce but that was nothing to the fact that it started to crack along the "stem" so quickly. Unfortunately, my husband though away the receipt so there was nothing we could do. I'm only writing this now because it has just gotten worse and now we are looking to purchase a new one. These aren't cheap so knowing that we just threw away that money is frustrating. We are very gently with our kitchen tools and it never went in the dishwasher. I'm at a loss as to why this happened.
Our old OXO salad spinner finally broke--the plastic bowl cracked and eventually split apart--so we decided to invest in the stainless steel model. I'm glad we did, it's a beautiful and functional product. The bowl is suitable to use as a serving bowl. There have clearly been advances in salad spinning technology since our last model: the top comes apart for cleaning, the spinning mechanism is powerful and works smoothly, the interior plastic colander seems sturdy, and the pieces all fit together perfectly. This thing was spendy but I honestly love it!
