I love this Rode PinMike wireless microphone. It provides great sound and makes you look very professional with the small footprint on the interviewee. And it makes the interviewee feel like a Hollywood star to wear this special mic.

I love this Rode PinMike wireless microphone. It provides great sound and makes you look very professional with the small footprint on the interviewee. And it makes the interviewee feel like a Hollywood star to wear this special mic.

I picked this up to presentations (actually for Adorama) and really like the idea of being able to wear a t-shirt and have a Lav that doesn't look like a mess. It is a bit fragile though so giving it 4 vs 5 stars.
I purchased the Pin Mic as a backup to a boomed mic to capture dialogue in a small production (short film), in case our boom operator missed his marks, or during action sequences.PROs:- Good sensitivity, so you will not need to boost your recorder's gain (much) to capture a decent signal.- The mic attaches very firmly to clothing, and doesn't pick-up any movement / rustling noise.- The kit includes 2 capsule heads of different colors to match different clothing (lighter and darker).- The Pin Mic cable is strong but flexible.- The MiCon (connector system) offers a wide range of connectivity options.- Comes in a very sturdy protective case.CONs:- Even with proper placement, the recorded audio might sound a little too warm and bassy (subjective), so you might want to ... For those of you who hate clothing noise and going through all the mounting processes to reduce it, this mic is amazing! Easy to use, easy to hide in plain sight (depending on garment of course) and absolutely zero clothing noise. I'm not sure about the availability of extra mesh covers but it would be nice to add about 10 of them and paint them different colors or sew buttons to them. I fear for the ability of the mic element to pop off of the leads as there is no mechanism that securely locks it in place. It feels like it goes on pretty solid and will likely stay there...but we all know actors are pretty careless and cause many wonderful problems with our gear :) I definitely see this mic becoming a very useful tool in my kit for getting decently clean audio ... When the stock lav mic on my sennheiser evolution series went down I decided to make a new purchase. A friend told me about the pinmic and I was sold after visiting the Rode website. Got it in the mail and tested it out. I'm a event shooter not a audio professional but to my ears the quality was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this to a friend just on that point alone. BUT! this mic is not perfect. The fuzzy windscreen is complete trash. It does not fit on properly and the wind still penetrates thru so its kind of pointless. But the regular wind screen screws on fine and does its job. The construction seems solid so far but I was always a little nervous the mic would just pop off and I would be screwed but it didn't! BE WARE it definitely leaves 3 holes where the mic was. I would NOT use this mic on my own expensive suit jacket but rentals are fair game. Also you have to stay away from thick clothing, the pinmic just made it thru a suit jacket any thicker it would have been sketchy. But the design of this mic makes it very easy to get creative and hide it in many places you never thought of. I do own this. I get great results. I do recommend it. It is not perfect.
I barely use these. I own two. They're very unpredictable. The pin mic has already gone bad on one. The micon connector when bad on one as well. The pin mic came off during a wedding once and I lost the mic. Rode has been great to work with and have replaced the bad one. But, I'm already having problems with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's static sounding.
The mic works perfectly for me. I am not very experienced when it comes to mounting lavs under clothes or hiding them in general. had some very frustrating moments with some regular lavs and then decided to give the piic a try. and wow, proplem solved. however, you have to live with the fact that the Mic is right in the line of sight. but so far this hasn't been a problem. We used the black cap on dark clothings and it is almost invisible.
