As I already had a number of 18v Ryobi tools I decided to get a pair of bypass secateurs. I chose the smaller pair for possible ease of handling and have found them to be very adequate for our suburban garden. Heavier cuts, particularly of dry wood, which would have been hard or impossible to complete with conventional secateurs, are handled quickly and with ease. Battery drain is very light and I have not needed to use the pruning saw for backup.

I’ve used this for about 20 hours now, and it’s a great tool. Very powerful and the battery life is incredible. There’s just one thing I don’t like about it - the auto shutoff feature. If you don’t use it for 30 seconds (feels like less to me) it switches off. Then you have to depress the trigger for 5 seconds and then wait 3 more seconds for it to reactivate. This might sound like a little thing, and I’m not saying it’s a dealbreaker, but when you’ve been up on a ladder in the hot sun for 2 hours and you have to reactivate it over and over…It’s actually less safe because it makes me feel like rushing to the next snip rather than taking my time to get the position perfect.Ryobi in the remote chance you see this review, please consider fixing this ‘feature’ and ... Purchased for my mum as a gift. She has arthritis in her hands and has trouble with manual pruners. She has no trouble with these however. She did think they were overpriced, so not the best value. But worth having for her. One other thing she love is them not having a dicky latch like all the manual ones she had that inevitable break leaving the pruners open in storage.

Great tool for those thicker branches - cuts through them easily - green or dead. For green foliage under about 5mm thick, I find it quicker to use traditional secateurs, as this tool takes about 3 seconds per cut. But for thicker branches and twigs - it's excellent. Remember to hold the trigger down for about 4 seconds to activate it.
I read many reviews on this item and I finally decided to add it to my Ryobi One+ items. I'm was already a fan of the Ryobi One+ items and although I have purchased some items, I have not yet used them. I do plan to. These Pruning Secateurs cut my garden work load by a 5th at least, if not more. I'm still awaiting the Bypass Lopper to be supplied. I'm disabled and this amazing little device HELPED ME in more ways than even I expected. This is A Must Have item that everyone should have. The 6 Years Warranty cover is also a real bonus as well.
Purchased this weekend to assist with pruning of my Jacaranda....should have got one ages ago. I only used a 1.5A/Hr battery and it was still going strong after close to 2 hours of continuous cutting. I cut the branches and twigs into small pieces in order to fit as much as possible in the green waste bin. On previous occasions, I would do this with hand secateurs, but this thing makes it so much easier (and saves on blisters). The Tool itself does get a little warm after continuous operation...but there was pretty much no rest time between cuts..so this will cut as fast as you can feed the twig and pull the trigger.(does make me wonder what would happen if your finger was in the wrong place...but that applies to hand secateurs as well).I had tossed up on ... Larger branches I cut with my Ryobi Reciprocating Saw.
I am becoming a bit of a Ryobi addict and didn’t really think that I would use the secateurs very much. I was Mistaken ! These have very quickly become one of my favourite tools. No more aching wrists. No mor aching hands. Trimming branches with ease has my gardens looking so much neater so quickly. My Ryobi Tool Kit is growing bigger and I have never been happier . I have a large garden with many fruit trees, and the Ryobi range make it easy for me to maintain my gardens so easily. The batteries last more than long enough, and when they run out, it’s just an easy change and away we go!
I had the world’s most overgrown pergola grapevine to prune. It hadn’t been pruned in over 30 years and was a gigantic tangle mess. I’m talking the size of a 2 car garage with tangled vines and branches 3 meters deep. With normal secateurs it would’ve taken me a full day or more.I fired up this beast and…holy cow. It’s amazing. I did the whole thing in less than 3 hours. It did struggle with the really gnarly ancient hard branches that were thicker than a garden hose but that’s no criticism. After 90 minutes I took a break and decided to plug in the battery and was surprised it had barely used up one bar.If I could change one thing about it, I would extend the auto-shutoff feature from 30 sec up to 60 sec, but it’s not a big issue. Now I need to find ... This thing is so satisfying!
My wife loves pruning anything that grows! Recently she had been complaining of aching hands, so I bought her these Ryobi Secateurs as a present to make the job a little easier! Well, first time she used them all she kept saying was WOW! Over and over! She is over the moon with how easy they cut anything she tackles! And no pain in her hands after! Brilliant Ryobi! Happy wife, happy life!
These are awesome secateurs I wish I had got these earlier. They cut through all the branches I need to without the wrist pain I love them to bits, being an avid gardener these are useful every day with trimming and prunning also taking off dead leaves Go get yourself a pair if you dont have one. Please read the instructions as if you dont hold button in long enough nothing happens. Very safety aware.
