I've used Sennheiser e835 microphones for over twenty-five years, and exclusively for the last fifteen years. I play mostly solo acoustic gigs, singing and accompanying myself on guitar. I'm also a guitarist and vocalist with the Highway Outlaws Band in Southern Arizona, and have started an acoustic trio called Troubadour. The e835 is central to our vocal reproduction signature. This mic delivers an unmatched presence and tone across the frequency spectrum, reproducing vocals with punch and clarity even in the midrange area, where SM58s tend to get "quacky". This means that vocal harmonies blend exceptionally well and sound balance is easier to maintain. The 835 also performs well in the home studio, with very little noise as compared to signal, which is very ... MoreI've used Sennheiser e835 microphones for over twenty-five years, and exclusively for the last fifteen years. And, I'm excited to see that I can save some bucks if I buy a 3-pack. I'll definitely be putting in an order soon.

After reading others reviews of this and other Sennheiser vocal mics I decided to buy one. I have used Shure 58's and Beta58's almost exclusively but also have the Shure KSM8 that I've been impressed with. This microphone is $ vs the KSM8 that is $ and it is every bit articulate, clear, and full-bodied. I am a baritone but sing 70-2000's rock, metal, and a lot of Ozzy. This mic is fantastic for my vocal range and allows me to sing naturally without having to force myself to drive my voice in the mix. For an economy vocal microphone you cannot go wrong with this mic period.

So I got back into making music in my mid 50s. Never got past grade 2 piano. Had a voice in my teens let it lapse to Karaoke. But… Was working away from home. Bought an electric guitar and started to play and sing. Took lessons in both. Bought a Boss AccoustiSinger amp and an E835. What struck me was how the improvements in my voice translated perfectly through the mic. Every nuance. Yes a few flaws, but each tightening, tone, projection, precision… they became real. While there’s very much more expensive mic’s out there, this captures clarity, range is extremely easy to use… you also get to manage the sound field and can control the kick in of harmonies. It becomes an instrument in its own right. Sennheiser is a trusted name. At this price point, you buy more than ... MoreSo I got back into making music in my mid 50s. Never got past grade 2 piano. I love Sennheiser microphones! I used to use the Shure SM 58, but found out it sounded to my ears, wooden. I have even used the MD 46 with very satisfying results. Then I discovered the E-835. The difference was night and day. I love the transparent sound on the mids and high frequencies are crisp and clear on this microphone. I use them exclusively for my remote interviews using my Mackie gear and does the job on my Focusrite 2i2 3rd generation audio interface for my studio work. For under a hundred dollars you can't go wrong and you won't have "buyers" regret. after use buy and use it. This is my latest purchase and when you get yours you'll hear what I mean.
Simple test proved very good in my Radio room .. The super cardioid is better than just a cardioid and has good side noise rejection and very good frequency response to the human voice range, and is very nice to listen to over the air.. tested against a cheep Karaoke Mic, The Kenwood MC-60, the Hial in a David Clark, and a Motorola hand mic! Results were very wide spread ! the winners The Sennheiser E835S Hand Held Dynamic Cardioid Microphone with Switch for normal SSB,AM/FM Voice Communication The Kenwood MC-60 for the CQDX and contesting MY test Mathew ( ARS VE8MN ) $ Mic ( VE8MT ) Thank you 73
This mic sounds really good out of the box. I’ve even tested it out in a vocal session in a noisy flat and the off axis reduction did better than I expected. Obviously it won’t reduce everything but does a good job at it. I would also recommend this for someone who has a deeper voice. Great value for money in my honest opinion.
For me, the Sennheiser E835S gave a clearer, more accurate sound than the Shure SM58. I add depth and vibrato naturally if I need it, so I don't need added darkness which I felt the Shure did. To men, the Shure sounded 'muddy' at lower pitch, but it is a very personal thing! That's why I was so pelted t be able to try both mics literally side by side.
My daughter is 15 and is involved in all things musical. She's been taking vocal lessons and doing musicals for 6 years, participated in big time vocal competition last year, being the only 14 year old making the finals, and I've been taking her to "School of Rock Atlanta" for over a year now, as well as to Rock Camp at Sweetwater up in Fort Wayne, Indiana this summer. To say she is serious and has great potential is an understatement. This microphone is by far one of the best she's ever sung on, and at a great price. The quality is excellent, and is about average weight for a good quality mic. We love it! Because of COVID 19, at school of rock they are using their own mics. They had a season ending miniconcert a few weeks ago. It was by far the hottest and cleanest ... MoreMy daughter is 15 and is involved in all things musical. Extremely reliable and accurate sound capture. Attractive, low profile handle and grill. Durable mic element and very durable finish - this looks great after a long life of varied usage. This mic has worked well for on-stage performance, public address, home studio recording, computer speech recognition, and ham radio transceivers, and it has sounded good every time. Mine looks brand new after many years. Substantial feel and feels good. I have performed specific A/B comparisons with similar products, some costing much more, and it compares best and beats the rest, including, for example, way better than the Heil PR-20, costing half again as much. The Sennheiser e-835 is an excellent value.
I had the pleasure of taking my partner and her band mate into the B&H store to test mid-range/cheaper mics for busking. We tested out a dozen mics back and forth with the B&H employee helping us. As soon as we tried the e835S everybody felt that it was just right.Having sung on a variety of mics, SM58 for a classic example, we have noticed that a lot of mics seem to be tuned for a more average (being MALE) vocal range. As an alto and a soprano, the chirpy/clear tone of this mic was head and shoulders above anything else we tried in this price range, even many higher end mics we have tried.Since purchasing these mics, we have taken them out busking several times with our portable PA system and have always been extremely happy with our investment.
