Bought this reel a little over 6 months ago, and it is my go to rock fishing reel. Despite being the entry model baitrunner, it is smooth and works like clockwork. A pleasure to use and comes with a 10 year warranty from Shimano, meaning it is a quality product regardless of its price.

Having read reviews for this reel, and the fact I wanted to try a smaller one of this type I felt this was the one to get. Its neat, very well made, very smooth, and a lot less clumpy than the usual bait runners I've tried. The free spool feature you can really get to be very loose which even the most cautious bites will be hard pressed to feel. All in all a great little reel at a great price.

I'm far from being a match angler, I just sit on the bank enjoying being outside, but this reel suits me very well. I've got two now paired with two Shimano 10ft rods and they make for a very pleasurable session. Well made, very smooth and for the money I think they're terrific value.

Have had Shimano 6000 bait runners for years for carp fishing . Bought the smaller one for a 6 ft scope stalking rod and this is the perfect weight for this rod . It wont be distance fishing so absolutely perfect . Would highly recommend.
Excellent addition to my 40+ other Shimano reels. The 4000 size is perfectly weighted to my 10ft quiver tip feeder rods, but would sit nicely on 11ft or 12ft rods as well. The construction is solid, the finish is simple and flawless and the overall build gives the impression of a reel that is intended for hard use, especially given the fact that feeder fishing is not the cleanest of fishing dissiplines.

An inexpensive Shimano bait runner that worked great on a Carp pond. Good line lay, neat handle, smooth mechanism, low weight. Exactly what I wanted.
I am not one for using bait runners (or spool reels generally), preferring to use a centre pin reel. However, I have found this reel to be a delight to use. A light reel, suited to use with a light rod for ledgering (working well with feeders), either in still water or river situations. I have had a good number of larger fish (carp, bream and tench) and the reel has performed well and given complete control in all cases.
