Today is my first time trying this product. The packaging is simple, clean-lined, and appealing. The product itself is cute. The flip lid is a nice touch, which gives a slow, easy flow of lotion. The consistency is a mildly rich, very light neutral smell. It felt really smooth going on, a heavy feel at first, but when you start to rub it in, it much lighter in consistency than you originally thought. After applying the product generously to my face, it immediately felt soothing, deeply moisturized, and soft. I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed a product so quickly, but I am IN LOVE! I’ve been a big fan of The Ordinary, and they knocked it out of the park with this Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides moisturizer. I have dry skin that is starting to age, and have longed for a moisturizer with lasting hydration. This formula is rich and emollient, yet fully absorbs and doesn’t leave my face sticky or slimy. When I apply before bed, I wake to dewy, hydrated skin. When I apply in the morning, it gives me the perfect base skin for foundation. It almost acts as a primer, preventing the foundation from clinging to any dry patches. Added bonus: the size is very generous, especially for such a reasonably priced product. I started using this one year ago and haven't looked back since. Totally changed the way my skin looks and feels. It does much more than a simple moisturizer since it's packed with ingredients that nourish and condition the skin. It works synergistically with the ordinary serums but it's fine as a stand alone treatment as well. I have combination skin and by applying it on damp skin I found it absorbs readily without ever feeling heavy as some reviewers describe. It takes a few minutes to completely set but once it does, my skin feels completely natural to the touch - no "film sensation". In the colder months I use it AM and PM while during hot season only once per day. I apply it to face/neck/upper chest but also to the back of the hands if needed. Two tubes last me a year without ever needing to be stingy about it. PS: I think the last tube I purchased contains a slightly reformulated product. It feels more occlusive than before and slightly thicker-richer when I work it between my fingers. It is easier to spread on skin but takes slightly longer to fully absorb. I am still very pleased with the end result.

My Face Is On FIRE From This Moisturizer!
26 February 2023

I have dry, sensitive skin, and as such I look for products with no fragrance or sensitizing ingredients. I typically use another moisturizer, but I heard so much about The Ordinary from influencers, when I saw it at my local Target, I picked this moisturizer up, along with the caffeine serum. I put this moisturizer on wet skin, like I normally apply moisturizer, fresh out of the shower. I looked in the mirror an hour or so later and to my horror my face was BRIGHT RED, except for around my eye sockets where I applied an eye cream instead. I looked like a red raccoon. Everywhere I went today, people asked me how I got so sunburned in Wisconsin on a winter day! My face actually HURT, and at the apples of my cheeks the skin was so raw it bled! I've never had any reaction like this from a moisturizer and I cannot figure out what ingredient in this would do that. The histidine or arginine maybe? Both are known triggers for cold sores, so perhaps that triggered some reaction in my skin. Why are these in a moisturizer? And CITRIC ACID for heaven's sake--are you kidding me? Do you think rubbing acidic lemons on your face would feel good? I washed this moisturizer off, but the damage was done. I put on my regular moisturizer and now 12 full hours later, my skin is just beginning to calm down. I regret this purchase and will be returning it immediately. I'm going to return the caffeine serum also. I don't trust anything in this line. By the way, the texture of this stuff is just gross. It glides on smoothly, but the more it soaks in, it develops a "matte" feel to it, like a mixture of equal parts of glue and dust. YUCK! It feels like primer that you would put on something before you'd paint it. I'm so angry and disgusted!

My Go-To Moisturizer
29 December 2022

I’ve been using NMF twice a day for over a year now and my skin still loves it! I have very oily, acne-prone skin that is extremely sensitive. I had been using cera ve cream before this, but my skin started to break out with it over time. I’ve had no irritation so far with this, which is really saying something for me! Natural Moisturizing Factors has a wonderful almost cloud-like texture that sinks in and makes my skin so soft without being too heavy or greasy. The first day I used it my husband touched my face and complimented how soft my skin felt. If you have sensitive skin and want a simple, affordable, lightweight daily moisturizer I would definitely recommend! It pairs great with serums, oils, and sunscreen too. My current AM routine is squalene cleanser, buffet serum, niacinamide + zinc, NMF, and The Ordinary spf. If I want a little extra moisture in the winter I’ll add a drop of argan oil before spf and it blends in perfectly. At night I use squalene cleanser, Inkey List BHA cleanser, buffet, NMF, prescription tret, and lock it all in with rosehip oil. For the first time in my life I’m getting compliments on my skin, and it’s pretty affordable too! It’s been a bit of trial and error but focusing on moisturizing (especially when using actives like BHA and tretinoin) has made a big difference.

My favorite moisturizer and there's a hack for it too!
10 April 2022

I've been using this moisturizer for almost 2 years now, and besides the price point, I genuinely love how it leaves a deep dewy glow on my face other moisturizers I've tried just can't quite replicate, unless they're 4-5 times the price, and even then I find myself still reaching for this one. Over time I've seen a real difference in the dryness and lines on my forehead and crows feet around my eyes. This is from the serums I'm using too of course, not just the moisturizer, as I've been working hard at putting together a really effective skincare routine and reading lots of ingredient reviews, but I can tell this moisturizer plays a big part in the overall results I'm seeing. This is from the serums I'm using too of course, not just the moisturizer, as I've been working hard at putting together a really effective skincare routine and reading lots of ingredient reviews, but I can tell this moisturizer plays a big part in the overall results I'm seeing. The other great thing here, besides it leaving my skin dewy (without being too shiny), is it seems to penetrate the deeper layers of skin as I've noticed towards the end of the day when I'm on my way home from work, my skin still feels pretty soft. I will say, the one drawback to this moisturizer is it takes about 15-20 seconds to get it to melt and blend into my skin, so you've got to be aware of this, and work it a bit as it's white cast galore at first, even on my fair skin. It doesn't instantly melt like many lotions, it does disappear with no white cast after the 15-20 seconds and getting warmer from the natural warmth of your skin. So don't give up lol - it's worth it! Recently I've discovered a fantastic hack for the longer blending time though! I decided to try out the Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% (by the Ordinary as well) as my last step before applying the moisturizer. It's an antioxidant serum with a bit of an oily finish, but not too oily. And oh wow! It makes the consistency just a tiny bit more slick to where it instantly blends, almost no initial white cast, and the finished results look even more glowy and supple. It's hard to describe other than fantastic! I sometimes find myself touching my face because I can't believe how soft it is. Yes that's mine! Also, a little goes a long way here. My most recent bottle of this stuff, the larger 3.3 oz/100mL size, lasted over a year and a half of use at frequency of ~4 days/week. You really only need just barely a pea-size amount to create ample moisture and to seal everything in my experience. It also doesn't have an unpleasant smell like some "unscented" products, it's a truly neutral scent which I appreciate as it's the last layer, besides sunscreen, and I find myself unable to use products with any strong smell on my face. Anyway, hope this helps! Highly, highly recommend this moisturizer and the hack for it too.

Perfect as the last step in my routine

I literally only have one thing I ask of moisturisers and that is that they don’t break me out, make my skin oily, or leave it dry and tight (yay combination skin). This is the only moisturiser that’s ever managed all three things. You’d think it can’t be that hard with all the research that goes into skincare (looking at you $80 moisturiser of fancy brand I won’t name lol), but I guess not! What I will say though: don’t expect magical things from this product. It used to be the only thing I put on in the mornings and only stuck with it because I didn’t want to enter the moisturiser carousel again. I’ve since realised it’s not really meant to do things “on its own” so to speak. It’s meant to seal in other products. It’s taken me quite a while to get around to it, but now that the lightbulb finally went off I feel like an idiot for not realising this before. As someone with lifelong acne prone skin, I was pretty scared to layer it on top of other products, especially oils, but it’s been completely fine in that aspect. I now use it after niacinamide and hemi squalene in the mornings and after pycnogenol and RHS oil in the evenings and it’s made those products work soooo much better.

Very unique; amazing to mix with oils

I have such a long explanation for this product simply because I've gone from hating it to loving it. One the first few uses when I first got this months ago I HATED it. It applied slightly streakily and opaquely and didn't seem to absorb into my skin. But over time I absolutely love it now and use it for mixing with oils. By itself the finish is VERY nonexistent- you can pile this product on and it literally looks like you're wearing nothing. Not a single evidence of shine, dewiness, or moisturized skin- it simply looks like plain skin. And I LOVE it for that- especially when mixing with oils (more on that below). I like the ingredients (linoleic acid, allantoin, vitamin E, urea, amino acids (11), ceramide precursors. These are excellent skin repairing ingredients. And this doesn't contain any active ingredients so it won't interact with any of your skincare products. Think of this product as a supplement for your skin that replaces your skin's Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF); obviously it's in the name and that's what this product is for. My absolute favorite way to use this moisturizer, though, is to use it as a mixing medium for my skincare oils (usually rosehip; my go to). I LOVE the finish this gives when mixing 2-3 drops of oils into it. I mix a little puddle in my palm and apply. It literally makes the oils almost undetectable on your skin. Plus, the fatty acids in this moisturizer pair nicely with the fatty acids in your oils so it's a nice pairing. Overall I find this moisturizer to be a nice mixing moisturizer- either with oils or other moisturizers. I like the skin-repairing ingredients so I use this when I want to mix in some repairing ingredients with other moisturizers that have actives. Plus it's SO CHEAP.

Worst moisturiser I've ever used...
5 April 2022

I have to say every time I use this my skin is screwed up for a week afterwards. I bought an entire regimen from theordinary and it just doesn't work. I'm not going to leave a review for every piece but none of them work at all. None of them are useful and all of them dry out my skin, give me a horrible texture, oiliness and mad blackheads. Almost all of them irritate my skin in some way, and I do not get that issue with any skin product I've tried in my life, no matter how cheap. I'm only going to bother reviewing this one because it's the worst one, but I honestly would recommend staying far far away from this entire line. I don't really have the same issues that others have, I have no problem warming it up in my hands, it applies evenly and the absorption is ... MoreI have to say every time I use this my skin is screwed up for a week afterwards. I'm only going to bother reviewing this one because it's the worst one, but I honestly would recommend staying far far away from this entire line. I don't really have the same issues that others have, I have no problem warming it up in my hands, it applies evenly and the absorption is fine. I don't find it gives any type of white film. The issue is it just actively makes your skin worse. Face does not feel moisturised after usage, and then in a few hours you have oilier skin than you did as a teen. It does say it's oil free but you would never guess it from the feel of it. It kind of feels like a lube instead of a moisturiser. I'm a guy who just buys whatever is on offer so I've used many and I've never seen anything like this. Maybe I'm ignorant and this is what more expensive moisturisers are like? I genuinely feel like I must be doing something wrong, but frankly I've never needed instructions for a moisturiser and have always had better results, and if it's possible to apply a moisturiser incorrectly that's just another reason to give it 1 star tbqh. Maybe I have some sort of bad batch, as I honestly can't believe something so highly rated could be so bad.

the perfect moisturizer for dry skin
14 July 2022

I bought this product in January and now we're in July and it's still not finished! I use it 2x daily and a little goes a veryyy long way. First, I apply the Ordinary serums (HA 2% + B5, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc, and Caffeine 5%) and then the moisturizer. Together, they've done wonders to my skin. I have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis and it was SO difficult to find a clean, non-toxic and affordable moisturizer. I tried so many different brands and wasted so much money looking for just-the-perfect moisturizer and I can honestly say this is it. Knock on wood, this product works like a charm on my skin. It keeps my skin hydrated and smooth and gives it a healthy glow. It also reduces the redness from the dermatitis so it keeps my skin calm and not irritated ... MoreI bought this product in January and now we're in July and it's still not finished! I use it on my face, neck and hands. Don't apply too much of it though. I wait a few minutes and then add an SPF cream afterwards. My only wish is that the Ordinary adds SPF to this product because it is the ONLY missing thing - other than that, it really is wonderful. Will buy it again and again and again.
