BEST headphone for location recording/boom operators/general studio tracking needs. Much better than MDR 7506 in all ways! Lightweight + ability to turn either up is great. With EQ compared to Aeon X Closed: I trust these more actually for overall accuracy for frequency response, but the Aeons overall sound better. (Aeons sound not so great without EQ though and so hard to drive that normal HP amps can't drive them) Hifiman Sundara's are better than Aeon X Closed/K371 in all ways including trusting them for mixing/clarity: but obviously are open-back. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the pads flake and get all over everything after a year or two. (Top pad stays fine though) You can replace them with Brainworx pads when they wear out: but I personally prefer the original pads the best. This is my 2nd pair (Original pair with brainworx is fine still though) Overall, definitely great headphones: if you need a first pair of headphones for anything professional audio related: you can't really go bad with these as they are quite flat and very versatile.

The headband had broken after a month of delicate use. For most of us, the buy K371BT decision is based not on design but sound taking BT + closed-back. Therefore, I'd advise AKG to just copy a headband design of any 20 USD headphones that don't break. Also, for those who already own K371(BT), it would be great to have a kind-of add-on reinforcement that can be snapped on two weak points of the headband. Many would be glad to pay for this as the sound is terrific compared to other BT closed backs. Also, a simple test of keeping the headphones on the head for 2 weeks and then putting headphones on/off the head (or simply expanding the distance between caps back and forth) just 500 times would easily reveal the problem before mass production cause I bet at least 20% ... MoreThe headband had broken after a month of delicate use. The test can be run on the headband prototype even before drivers or caps are integrated. This would make the product a little more expensive. (or may be not if warranty expenses are taken into account) Anyway it is a lot less expensive to buy 200 usd headphones every 5 years instead of 150 usd every month.

The first copy snapped in 9 months of mild use. After a month of fierce arguments between me, the local distributor and the manufacturer, I got my headphones replaced under warranty. 1.5 years after, half of which the headphones were not used at all, the second copy snapped in the exact place as the first one did. This is clearly a design flaw, since lots of other users report their copies snapping in the exact same place. The headphones sounded truly great, the sound stage is something I gonna miss. Yet at that price I think such durability issues are unacceptable. I regret choosing these headphones.

Overall: Great sound but there is a huge manufacturing defect with the headband. These will snap on you over a short period of time. I bought these headphones right at the end of 2020, as a solid closed-back option alongside my other AKG headphones. I've probably used these headphones for about 3 months over the course of a year, and suddenly the left side of the band snapped when in use. I figured this was such an anomaly since my other AKG headphones have lasted through so much more (4+ years of mixing and tracking). I respect all my audio equipment as any professional should and I've never heard of headphones snapping like this, especially from AKG or any other professional audio brand. I respect all my audio equipment as any professional should and I've never heard of headphones snapping like this, especially from AKG or any other professional audio brand. After looking at some warranty info and seeing a compiled amount of reviews stating the exact same defect, I've realized this is far beyond a bad QC batch and has more to do with the design of the actual headband. It is truly disappointing to see so much of the same experience amongst us and not a lot of action taken on AKG's part. Since my situation, like most, are put right out of the limited warranty coverage- it leaves me with a pair of $200 headphones that look nice, but are unusable.
The headphones below are extremly comfortable and the sound quality is awesome, but they are not durable - at all. I consider myself a person who takes care of their things; however, it appears that these headphones began to unravel and the leather feel material failed to stay attached. I have a love hate with the product after seeing how they ear muffs are poorly designed. It made me skeptical to buy a more premium headphone from AKG, because I want them to look great. I've only had these headphones for a year and have used them less then 100 hours.
I should say up front that I'm a massive AKG fan. I have bought 4 pairs if the previous generation N60NC. I lost one pair, have one pair at work, one at home and one pair still in shrink wrap in case I can't find them when I have worn out the others. I bought the 371BTs in the hope that it would address the lack of accuracy in the 60s and give me a closed back option. Not that they are bad but for mixing and mastering I wanted something better. Pros: Superb sound. A solid step up in detail and more accurate bass. Good over the ear sound isolation for non cancelling headphones. The ear pads feel good and comfortable Excellent battery life. 3 or 4 times better than the N60NC Cons: The headband never quite feels like its secure. It's a hard thing to describe and this might just be my head. When turning your head, there is sometimes a strange mechanical groan from the headband or joint. This gets amplified mechanically into the headphones. I've learnt to keep my head still. Silicone spray might fix this... Shocking bluetooth implementation. I know this is a problem with these headphones as I can directly compare to others. Now this may be because my main listening computer is Windws 7, they do seem to work better on W10, but they still take ages to be detected when pairing. No noise cancellation - but then this might be why the sound quality is so good. The power saving is too aggresive and they can even turn off when I'm listening to something. I'm guessing this is because I haven't move my head for a while. See above. In all I want these to work because the battery life and sound is so good. These are a firmware update away from greatness. Firmware update please AKG !!
A review after a few months of use. Short version : overall these are good headphones (and quite affordable), but they become uncomfortable very fast. I own an AKG k271 Studio (the first version) since 2003 and it's pretty much beat now, so I bought this k371, hoping to replace it. The sound: fortunately, both k271 and k371 sound quite good and similar, but there are differences. Overall, they're both rather neutral. The k371 has more generous in the low frequencies, but lacks some high frequencies. I notice peaks between 250-500 Hz and another around 8KHz (these can be bothersome, especially the lower one). There's a dramatic drop above 8KHz. The k271 on the other hand is clearer on the high end of the spectrum (without the drop) while being a little lacking on the low end. Frequencies aside, the k371 sounds more centered and strangely "confined", I guess because of the material and shape of the earpieces. The difference with the k271 is subtle. As an illustration, imagine the difference of pronunciation between the words "hawk" and "oak". Which one you prefer is a matter of personal taste. The impedance of the k271 was 55Ω, while this k371 is 32Ω which may also explain these differences. My personal preference is the k271, but it might be because I'm so used to it. Build quality: the k371 is more sturdy, with fewer moving pieces and feels less empty. Despite being all plastic, it paradoxically feels less cheap. No rubber bands mechanism contrary to the k271, which is a very good thing. No double hoops either, the headband is one single piece (more on that later). The earpiece cushion are also softer on the k371 (the k271 had leather cushions). The earpiece shape is more oval (the k271 had large round earpieces) and may not fit every ear size. The k271 weighs about 240g, the k371 weighs a few grams more. Main reproach: these k371 become very uncomfortable after just a few minutes, to the point where they hurt. They're heavier than the k271 and the headband is thinner and has a very round shape. Although it's somewhat cushioned, the round shape makes it so that the weight is spread on a way smaller surface (the very top of your head), and it becomes hurtful. An illustration that comes to mind is that old torture method where you make someone kneel on a ruler. Here, same principle, but the pain is on the top of your head. I'm obliged to add a few layers of fabric under the headband to reduce the pressure. The k271 had four things that helped in that regard: the headband was larger, and the shape made the weight more evenly spread across the head. Also, the earpieces were larger and they put more pressure around the ears, reducing even more the efforts at the top of the head. I can wear the k271 for several hours at a time. With the k371, I'm forced to take the headphones off for a moment every 15 minutes. Another reproach : the earpiece cushions are not changeable. We could change them on the k271, which became necessary after a few years of daily use. Here, the cushion are not made out of leather, and I don't think they'll last as long as on the k271. Problem is, when they do wear off, I'll have to change headphones altogether.
Sonically, these are truly excellent closed-back headphones. For reference, I own and use Hifiman Sundara, Beyerdynamic DT-880, AKG K240S, AKG K361, Etymotic ER4S, and others. I absolutely love the K371. I also own the K361 and I love those too. But the K371 are the "audiophile" choice for sure. The K361 have the same balanced and beautiful midrange, but lack sub bass presence and some top end sparkle. They are very flat (good for mixing) and may need some EQ to sound their best. The K371 improve on the already fantastic K361s and bring incredibly impactful and musical sub-bass (<60Hz) without muddying or obscuring the mid-bass at all. The mids on the K371 are clear, defined and balanced. Nothing sticks too far forward or is too recessed. The presentation of the ... MoreSonically, these are truly excellent closed-back headphones. The mids on the K371 are clear, defined and balanced. Nothing sticks too far forward or is too recessed. The presentation of the sound is very musical and "meaty." You just want to listen to all of your favorite tracks through them again and again. The top end of the K371 are slightly more present and defined than the K361. I would say the 371's are a bit more resolving and upper-mid forward. Soundstaging is pretty good, but the pads are very squishy so they compress onto your ears and collapse the soundstage a bit. I wish AKG would fit these with slightly deeper and firmer pads, maybe with velour cups. The build quality is good so far, but they do use plastic and a sort-of flimsy feeling cable that is very microphonic. If AKG build a "K381" series with solid metal construction, higher-quality ear pads, better quality cable, slightly wider soundstaging and better isolation, while using the exact same drivers it would be a total slam dunk. Regardless, these are fantastic, I can't recommend them enough. They are also super easy to drive, given their high sensitivity. They have low impedance so make sure your headphone amplifier has a low output impedance.
These headphones are phenomenal. If you want accuracy and detail, this is what you want. This is a big step up from the competition like HD 280, DT770, and M50x. The dt770 and m50x are always recommended as the best closed back for under 200, but they are nowhere near being flat and accurate. This might make them more "fun" to listen to, but when accuracy matters, trust me, the k371 dominates the competition. The m50x is such a scooped, v-shaped tuning, same with the 770. These are full, rich, warm, accurate, but still have enough detail and bass response for any kind of music. I use these exclusively when I need a closed-back listening and mixing solution. At 155 bucks, you won't get a better pair of closed-back cans until you reach about 500, almost triple the price of this one.
I recently bought these headphones from a company in Greece, wanting them for podcasting work and general use. I cannot recommend them or the headaches I believe they are causing me. While the look and feel of the headphones still impresses me greatly, and the wired/bluetooth facility was the final selling feature for me, I have to say that after a couple of weeks of use they are becoming almost unwearable for longer than 30'. The earpads are extremely thin and insubstantial causing my ears to be in constant contact with the cans, and as a result, the cartilage in my ears aches afterwards for hours. For the price, the sound is great, but the build quality and comfort factor are low. I am extremely disappointed.
