Let me start by saying I love how e.l.f. is cruelty free! I always search for products that protect animal welfare, and this brand fits the bill! I previously used a different eyeshadow primer that had weird packaging and was hard to apply. I switched to this, and the brush and wand make applying this primer a snap! My shadow glides on smooth and stays! I also wear it alone for a more natural look, and my long eyelashes don’t smudge on my eyelids when I use it. Love the product, price, and commitment to animals for e.l.f.!

It works great to lock in eyeshadow. It stays in place and the colors remain vibrant all day long. I like that it doesn’t dry down too fast before I can spread it over my eye. But it does dry down pretty fast afterwards. I like that it lightens the appearance of my eyes but I definitely have to be careful not to spread it too far (I had white cast near the brow bone that I had to neutralize). When it dries down, it does have a powder like texture that makes applying eyeshadow easier. I tend to have oily lids and had no problem with oil seeping through or with creasing. It’s kind of a small tube (but most eye primers are small) so I’ll have to see how long it lasts me. This product is great quality for the price and I’ll definitely be repurchasing in the future.

I tried this on a whim when my beloved UDPP ran dry. At $3CDN it is a steal and I have heard nothing but good things about this. So what’s there to lose? As shown in my photo it has a very light peachy tint but it doesn’t show on the eyelid when applied. Like the UDPP it has an oily feel when applied but does dry down powder smooth. I don’t find it makes my shadows ‘pop’ but it doesn’t let them blend into nothing. Lasting power? Well for $3 I am impressed at its lasting ability but after 6hrs of wear you are going to notice the shadows start to crease and wear off. All in all not a terrible product and I will continue to use until it is empty.

I wanted to like this primer SO much! It has a beautiful shimmer to it and is honestly something I'd be fine with wearing on its own. However, it has two major downsides. First, the color of it is 'nude' (read: really only blends in with very light skintones). It worked for me because I'm so white that I might as well be a Live Laugh Love bumper car sticker, but I don't think it would work very well for darker skin tones. Part of the appeal for me is that it matches my skin well enough that it makes the eyeshadow pop without leaving behind a clear border, but if you don't have my particular skin shade, you lose out on that benefit.Second, my sensitive skin was NOT a fan of this. It looked great, but wasn't worth my eyes feeling like they were on fire. Tl;dr, I'd say ... MoreI wanted to like this primer SO much! Tl;dr, I'd say this'll work for you in general if you don't have crazy sensitive skin like I do, but there are a) better shadow primers out there and b) shadow primers that aren't made with the assumption that everyone who uses makeup has light skin. I'm giving it three stars because it works alright, but it's a no from me overall.

I was very hopeful when i purchased the e.l.f. Shadow lock eye primer. I had heard so many great reviews from friends and also checked online for costomer satisfaction. At first application the primer held the color of the eyeshadow beautifully but within one or two hours the product had settled into the creases of my eyelids and and wrinkles and started to separate on my oily skin. I tried using this product several times with different methods and the end result was always the same. The primer worked the best and stayed put the longest when i applied a setting power before applying the eye shadow and finishing with a good setting spray. This product would most definitely work well on anyone that does not have overly oily skin.

Really makes a difference with eye make-up As a make-up newbie, I was definitely skeptical of eyelid primers, but I'm glad I made the investment. Like most elf products, the price was right, and the quality was fantastic. It blends nicely and easily, and just ends up melting into your skin tone, my skin is darker than the shade of the shadow and my eyelids are bit darker than my face, and the primer may have lightened it a bit, but in a way that looked totally natural. I wear this with some pretty cheap drugstore shadows, and I've had trouble with fallout, pigmentation and blending-- it just took so long to get these shadows to a nice, noticeable shade, and then any attempts to blend left my eyes irritated from fallout. Been using this for YEARS

I first purchased this about a hundred years ago at CVS--back then it was two bucks and came in TWO shades--Sheer, which is what elf stocks now, and Pearl, which is a shade that looks exactly how it sounds. Sheer will work with skin tones medium and lighter, but I really do wish they'd either release an eye primer that was TRULY sheer, or expand the shade range to include the one shade they have now plus another deeper shade. This primer dries down soft, but it really does extend the wear of cream, liquid, and powder pigments. Feels lightweight and goes on smooth on aging lids. I've seen a few people say that the unit carton is too small; listen, you don't need much of this, less is more...and also that the size has stayed the same but the cost has gone up; elf made ... MoreI first purchased this about a hundred years ago at CVS--back then it was two bucks and came in TWO shades--Sheer, which is what elf stocks now, and Pearl, which is a shade that looks exactly how it sounds. I've seen a few people say that the unit carton is too small; listen, you don't need much of this, less is more...and also that the size has stayed the same but the cost has gone up; elf made it clear that they were raising their prices. They were very up front about that. What other beauty brand lets us know that they're raising their prices?! We can't expect uber-affordable elf to never raise their prices when EVERY BRAND around us is and cost of living has skyrocketed. I still consider them very affordable and I live in a state where the minimum wage is still $7.25/hour and I'm currently laid off. They're affordable. ANYWAY--even though I really like this eye primer I can only give it three stars, and that's for just one reason: elf's 'Sheer' isn't ACTUALLY sheer, and it's messed up that elf's 'sheer', by default, is light peach.

Easy to use eyelid primer
1 July 2022

I bought the eyelid primer a while ago and I have been happy with my purchase. It is super easy to use by simply unscrewing the lid which has an applicator attached to the lid. It slides across the eyelid effortlessly with just enough product. Simply smooth with fingertip to set in place, It stays in place really well and makes a good base for eye shadow to sit on. The shade suits my fair complexion well and is unnoticeable under make up. The staying power is pretty good and eye make up lasts longer. Good product for the pride.

Slightly too sticky, but it works great
9 November 2021

I used the Putty eye primer for a long time until it became too dry and not worth constantly reviving it. This primer dries down tackier than the Putty eye primer, which is more waxy than sticky. It can grab a lot of eye shadow, making the colour pop by the sheer amount of product packed into one area. If you want to tweak the background colour of your eye lid to make a different contrast with your eye shadow, then you'd still need the Putty eye primer or another primer that has colour. But the Shadow Lock will do for most eye looks.Tip: Since the texture of Shadow Lock is very sticky, I would suggest to first apply a bit of translucent powder or a lighter version of your desire eye shadow colour where you will blend out and fade the colour. (For example: put down a pastel yellow above your crease before using a bright yellow under your crease, then blend the layers) The reason is to put down a more slippery layer before you put down something very intense on the very sticky area. It'd prevent the primer from grabbing way too much shadow in one spot, so the blend would be much smoother.

Firstly, when opening new tube, give it a good shake then apply. its extremely simple /cheap packing, doesn't feels like it works. This is the best primer, I haVe used 3 -4 tubes. all my expensive eyeshadows don't pop on my eyes and they don't stay as well. Since i have started using it, my eyeshadows stay put for really long time. but sometimes I feel that after using this primer I can't blend, because eyeshadows get stick very strongly but its a plus point because after using this primer , eyeshadows don't budge at all. I have not tested high end brand though so can't compare. I didn't need to go high up,because it did the job very well. apply a thin layer , and wait for it to dry( i don't wait usually) eye become chalky after using this primer.. then eye canvas ... MoreFirstly, when opening new tube, give it a good shake then apply. its extremely simple /cheap packing, doesn't feels like it works.
