Tri-color Pearl Couscous is at once delicious and daring! Its beautiful red and green colors come from real tomato and spinach. Use in place of pasta in your favorite dishes.Couscous pearls, also known as Israeli Couscous, are small balls of toasted semolina flour. In Israel, they are called Ptitim. During 1949‚Äì1959, Israel went through an austerity period during which food and other resources were rationed. Rice, a dietary staple, was scarce, and there was a need to come up with an alternative food source. Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, asked the founders of a local food company to create a wheat-based substitute for rice. The result was tiny, toasted pasta made from hard wheat flour. It was an instant success with the people, and they gave it the nickname ‚ÄúBen-Gurion's Rice.‚ Äù Today, Israeli couscous remains a staple food in Jerusalem and is enjoyed by people in many places around the world. Bob's Red Mill Tricolor Pearl Couscous has a unique nutty flavor and pleasantly chewy texture that pairs exceptionally well with your favorite sauces, so it can be a great alternative to traditional pasta and rice. The green and red pieces get their color from spinach and tomato. Use Tricolor Pearl Couscous as a bed for stew, meat, or vegetables, or try it as an entree with your favorite pasta sauce. Add Israeli couscous to soups, salads, and pilafs for a new twist on old stand-bys. Like rice, couscous pearls will absorb the flavors of whatever spices or sauce you are using. Using pearl couscous, quick and easy main dishes and salads are just minutes away.

Actually it's ptitim, not couscous, but really tasty

For me, this is like an alternative to macaroni, only in the form of tiny circles. Ingredients: Wheat flour, spinach powder, tomato powder, annatto (colorant).I took the tricolor option, there are also classic options without coloring with spinach or tomato powder. The taste is like good pasta, even more interesting because of the shape. You can cook different main dishes with this ptitim, you can throw it in soup. I liked the quality, I buy it not for the first time.

Excellent!

I love this product. It's not what I typically think of as couscous, but it's delicious in its own way with a lovely taste. If couscous could be pasta, this would basically be it. I love the size of the pearls, follow the package instructions to fry them before boiling. Love that they're colorful too. Definitely recommend these!

I had never heard of or tried Tri-Color Pearl Couscous. These are delicious. They puff up unlike plain couscous. I trust Bob's Red Mill. In addition to cooking instructions, Bob's Red Mill included a recipe . I made the Tahini and Carrot Couscous Salad. It was so easy to make. Though I didn't bake the chickpeas first or add salt to the recipe, this was delicious. I just cooked the couscous, added everything to the pot, and ate it. It made a large portion to enjoy for days. It even freezes well.

Love this couscous!

This is a nice alternative to potatoes or rice. I usually cook it using a middle-eastern inspired recipe, adding the couscous pearl to fried onion and adding golden raisins, paprika, coriander, and sometimes pine nuts if I have some on hand. Instead of using water, I use vegetable broth for more flavor. It comes together quickly and is a tasty side dish.

Yummy couscous, easy to cook

I like that Bob's gives a basic couscous recipe on the back. This isn't too large of a package, 1 lb probably will last a 2-3 batches if you are cooking 1 cup per the directions. I would highly recommend toasting the couscous for a few minutes in oil/butter before adding in the water. I would also recommend adding a few spices (fresh garlic or garlic powder, pepper, paprika) at the end of the toasting to bring out those flavors. Then add some stock bouillon/concentrate as well before cooking. And finish off with lemon juice and zest. Delicious!
