4 plus would be a more accurate rating. This dewalt nail gun has been a pleasure to use and has given good service after a couple 1000 nails with zero jams. I’m not a fan of the rafter hook and since the nails load from the top of the magazine they rely on gravity to hold them in place. So if you are working overhead occasionally the nails will slide slightly out the top and will not advance. Not a big issue but it does happen. I would recommend this gun and I have no regrets purchasing one.

It's supposed to shoot up to .148 nails. It does but it doesn't do it well. 16D .131 nails work better in this gun than 10D .148 commons, which are required often in sheer wall nailing.Other than that it is nice to not have to drag around an air hose. The 6AH batteries last a long time and you can shoot several racks of nails before you have to change batteries. Make sure you have the right size allen wrench to remove jammed nails.

I have used this nailer for a week on a framing and siding job. Overall, it performs well. The two power settings are efective..a 3-1/4inch framing nail needs the higher setting. The depth adjustment is a bit stiff but it eased up after I played with it. The tool is heavy with the larger DeWalt battery packs. I had a few jams with the tool but, if you read the instructions, they clear easily. About half the time, the jam is user error. My only gripe is the lockout button is positioned very close to the trigger so that, if you're wearing gloves, it is easy to engage the trigger lock accidentally. It's no fun trying to figure out what is wrong up on the ladder.

Nailer works intermittently. Seems to jam constantly after firing only one or two nails. To get it work you have to remove and reinstall the battery and the clip of nails (which don't seem to be jammed in any way). Extremely frustrating and dangerous when working at heights on a ladder. This tool sucks and I recommend you look at alternatives. It's past 90 days now so I have to deal with Dewalt customer service to return.
I’m not a contractor, but I had contractors. Tell me to buy a different nail gun. I have all Dewalt equipment and I wasn’t changing batteries. I was building a barn and it worked satisfactory. Every now and then a nail didn’t drive all the way every now and then it jammed. I would say in four days of use it malfunctioned or jammed four times. They were easy to clear and this machine saved me a lot of time and I actually considered buying a second one just to have it on hand.
One of the biggest draws that settled my decision on this nailer was that I own several 20vMax tools with batteries that are interchangeable (some requiring negligible alterations). I don't really want try to maintain a tool collection each of which requires it own special batteries and chargers!! I made the reasonable assumption that 20vMax was a standard battery design and my experience up to this point re-enforced that assumption (and why shouldn't it?). It was pretty disappointing to find that the batteries have different shaped mounting slots. I’d like to tell you how this nailer works but it doesn’t. And it never did. Maybe it was broken in the 4 months it took to arrive. Maybe it was just a broken gun sent by a broken company. Maybe it’s like the other reviewers say and this tool is poorly constructed trash. Maybe Dewalt doesn’t mean quality anymore. Save your money and trouble. Get a better brand or a pneumatic nailer. This one will leave you stranded
Day one it fired a half dozen times then it crapped out. It would rev up but pulling the trigger only got it to click and not fire. I watched Dewalts video, took apart the firing assembly, put it back together again, and it worked... sort of. Jams way more often than my other nail guns and when it jams the nail usually get stuck halfway into the wood and twisted up in the gun. Lube helped but it still happens with brand new perfect racks of nails. More common with longer nails than shorter ones. Jams are fixed by removing the battery, unracking the nails, taking out an allen wrench and loosening two bolts, dislodging the stuck nail, retightening the bolts, replacing the allen wrench, reracking nails, reinstalling the battery and hoping it doesn't happen again. There is no redeeming quality to this garbage tool. It lasted less than two clips before my guys ran for the compressor. It will seriously make you want to cry. It just lacks the power to be considered a framing nailer, leaving the most basic nailing jobs like headers to be finished with a hammer. It also jams constantly and has zero ergonomics. Just awful and shocking that it is even on the shelf. I suspect it will be pulled before long as it is that poor of a unit.
I'm a diy'er. I buy nice tools because I don't have time to waste fighting with tools. my friends joke I must have stock in DeWalt. This is the WORST modern tool I've used, period, including the Riobi nailers I've used. It jams, won't feed an entire strip of nails, can't shoot nails at a consistent depth- even the location of the rafter hook is mind boggling. do yourself a favor and if you need cordless go Paslode. This experience plus the "you bought it haha" response you get from DeWalt when something does break under warranty means I'll be looking to switch to an M brand pretty soon.
