Fellowes 79Ci Shredder Cross Cut

Fellowes Powershred 79Ci is a very reliable shredder that performs well. It goes for about 30mins continuous shredding of approx. 14 sheets per time before it cuts out for about 20mins to cool down. This is my second 79Ci, first one lasted over 3 years and is still working but is slow and only does about 8 sheets at a time. New one is working very well. Definitely recommend this as a reliable, good value shredder with good shredding capability.

The shredder does a great job. Quiet, quick and merciless shredding of just about everything.The waste collection bin is a bit feeble and is an annoying downside to what would have been an easy five star rating. It moves while using the shredder and it cuts out. The size of the waste bin is small and requires frequent emptying. When using plastic bags to help collect the waste paper the bin is even more reluctant to shut easily and quickly.Only used it for a few days and it has handled all challenges given to it. Hopefully it will continue to do so.

A great replacement for an old bulky shredder.

We purchased the Powershred 79Ci to replace the old bulky shredder we had in the office. It was temperamental, prone to jamming and super loud. The Powershred easily handles the same workload of the old shredder while being quieter and not jamming. The Powershred has a much nice form factor while still shredding the same size documents, and same amount of pages as our old shredder. Finally have the chance to catch up on the shredding we have been putting off!

A shredding revelation

When yet another relatively inexpensive cross cut shredder failed after what seemed a relatively short time, I felt that it was time to get something a little more substantial. After some study on the internet, this Fellowes Powershred device seemed to receive more than its fair share of accolades. Frankly I was not expecting much, and was more than a little surprised when I went to collect it from the Post Office, as the postie laboured to drag it from the sorting office in a huge sack, like Santa at the start of his Christmas rounds. I was told that this was how it had arrived from Germany as the flimsy Amazon carton it was packed in was damaged. This was clearly far more substantial a device than I had expected. I was told that this was how it had arrived from Germany as the flimsy Amazon carton it was packed in was damaged. This was clearly far more substantial a device than I had expected. The unit was much better packed in the manufacturer's packing and was quickly unwrapped and assembled. It even comes with a phial of oil to lubricate the blades (recommended each time the container is emptied). This device is a magnitude better than the popular (and yes cheaper) models sold for home office use, and quickly chomped through large swathes of paper that had accumulated since the last shredder failed. It is difficult to overload, as it switches off when pushed to excess and has indicator lights to suggest when it is nearing capacity. It turns off whenit overheats or when the container is full. Half an hour of quietly chomping through 12 sheets of A4 at a time will cause it to overheat and stop. Leave it for half an hour and you can start over. It will shred a surprising amount of paper in half an hour. The receptacle needs to be emptied frequently as it quickly fills, but a much larger receptacle would make the disposal of the shredded paper less manageable, so it's a fair compromise between size and performance. The device makes short work of old credit cards, turning them into small shards of plastic confetti. It does the same with old data CD/DVD discs, though I have little use for that, and the bits go in the same receptacle as the paper, which is less convenient for recycling, but it's good to know that it will dispose of such discs. The only negative is that it comes with a few polythene bags, which are too large to line the receptacle and two small to cope with the workload. I discarded them in favour of larger paper recycling bags from the local supermarket. This is an outstanding device. Let's hope it proves to have a long and hard working life.

A very good product with one or two flaws

This shredder works beautifully. However, I encountered a couple of problems. The first was fitting the casters to the base. There were no detailed instructions on how to do this. When I pushed them into their holes as far as they appeared to go and turned the shredder upright, they fell out. I pressed them in again, using much more force; three went in and clicked in place, but one refused to go in. I tried more and more force, eventually applying much of my weight; this distorted the hole, but did allow me to force the caster in. This was a very poor start to the setting up, as my hands were bruised from exerting so much pressure. The second issue, much more minor, was when I came to oil the cutters for the first time. In all other respects the machine has worked perfectly, shredding several hundred A4 sheets in a few moments, and it did so very quietly.

Great Powerful Shredder Home Office

I purchased this cross cut shredder for my home office for it's brand's reputation, know durability and the overall quality. This machine was packed very well, easy to unbox and assemble. Instructions are very easy to understand - don't forget to oil the shredder teeth! The machine is very quiet whether you are shredding sheets of paper or credit cards. Consistent pace, has not jammed on me yet. Fit stylishly next to my desk. The standby feature is a great feature, I can at any time just put whatever I want shredded in the machine without having to turn on the unit and while in standby there is little to no power consumption. Great Shredder & Safe

This shredder works very well and is extremely quiet. You can hear the sound of the cutters cutting the paper but there is no other sound. Not sure how a shredder could be any quieter. The bin that the paper shreds into is easily removable and easy to dump. There is a main power shut off at the back of the shredder which is easily accessible and another power button on the front of the shredder. I have young kids and really like the two power buttons as a safety feature. I also like the Safe Sense technology as a further safety feature for children. I have no complaints.

Up until now I've dreaded shredding my paper because the ancient shredder I had would inevitably jam at least once, take 30-60 minutes to clear the jam, and sound like I was running a sawmill in my home because of the noise it made. Having recently bought the 79ci, I am thrilled with this purchase. I no longer avoid shredding and actually look for things I can shred (yes, I'm sure the honeymoon will wear off at some point)! The only thing I wish was different is that you need to fiddle around when placing the bin back in to get it to close properly. Once I figured it out what I was doing to get it to shut completely, it did get easier the more I did it. Otherwise, very pleased with this shredder, especially the no jam feature!!!!

Solid and reliable shredder

Purchased this to replace a generic 8-sheet shredder that constantly jammed and was unreliable. This one seems to do a better job and is a lot quieter. Very solid construction and neat and easy to use interface. Removable bin is a very convenient feature and the casters make this heavy shredder easy to move around where needed. Lifetime warranty on the cutters is a plus. With regular maintenance with the Fellowes performance shredder oil we are hoping this machine lasts us a long time in our home office.
