Fiskars 375591-1001 4-1/4Lb Splitting Axe, 28", Black
Ideal for splitting medium- to large-sized logs. Designed for maximum efficiency to give you more one-strike splits. Perfected balance and power-to-weight ratio increases swing speed to multiply power much like an aluminum baseball bat. Advanced bevel convex blade geometry adds power and makes the blade easier to remove from wood. Unique head shape disperses wood from the blade for clean splitting. Proprietary blade-grinding technique provides a sharper edge for better contact and cleaner cuts. Hardened forged steel blade stays sharp longer than traditional axes. Low-friction blade coating powers through wood and prevents head from getting stuck. Inseparable PermaHead insert-molded head will not loosen and prevents overstrike breakage. Shock-absorbing DuraFrame handle is lightweight yet stronger than steel to prevent overstrike damage.

I’ve had this axe for 20 years. I’m not a normal user. I burn wood to heat my house and in the PNW, our trees grow LARGE. Hence even with a hydraulic splitter, I need a good solid maul that’s light enough that o won’t fatigue from literally hundreds of hits a day (I split about 2 cords yearly - remember MASSIVE rounds). Also, I wanted an axe my children could use. So it had to be light and short enough for them so that I could teach them the finer arts of splitting.Whilst most everything is softwood, our wood is gnarly and extremely fibrous with many branches (read knots). Hence the use of a sledgehammer is often required. I’ve pounded on my little Fiskars for 20 years with an 8 lb sledgehammer when it gets stuck. So finally, it took its last sledgehammer ... MoreI’ve had this axe for 20 years. I’m not a normal user. I was willing to pay the difference between the 28” one and the 36” one (children all grown up, only me using it) but since the 36” one was on sale, they let me have it! Awesome service Canadian Tire Maple Ridge…you’re the best!I 100% recommend this axe. Can’t wait to hammer on the 36” one for the next 20 years and see how it holds up. If anything I’m expecting to use my sledgehammer less, due to the heavier weight and length of the axe. Thanks for the memories Fiskar and Canadian Tire.

I believe that this ax is the best on the market. I didn't think about it being a splitting ax. After I bought the first one I found another on sale at a big discount so I bought my second Fiskers Splitting Ax. I especially like the Hawkbill handle. When you sling this ax it won't slip out of your hands. I like it because it is lighter than a Splitting Maul. This ax won't tire you out as quickly as a bigger maul.

I bought this axe a few seasons ago and it has proved itself to be superior to any other axe I've ever used. I've been heating with wood for 20 out pf the last 40 years and in that time I've used several diferent axes/hatchets for processing firewood. Believe me when I say that nothing even comes close to the level of performance that this axe offers. It has a 1.5# head that outperforms my 6# maul on all but the largest rounds but it's still light enough to use one-handed.I haven't had to sharpen it yet and the coating makes it maintenance free, at least up to this point. This could literally be the only axe you'd ever need in 3 lifetimes.

I was very skeptical about getting this axe but my wife insisted we get this for the car to have handy for our regular firewood foraging missions around the city. She also wanted a shorter, lighter axe she could comfortably use as well. I also have the 36 inch Fiskars splitting axe (which is a beast that will rip up the biggest logs) and I was open to getting another 36 incher for the car, but decided to go with what the wife suggested.Did a wood foraging mission today with this 28 incher and was able to rip through logs accurately and comfortably. It did take an extra few swings at times, but the light weight didn't tire me out. Turns out i'm a fan of this axe!I see this is pretty much the same axe as the X21. It serves well to keep in the trunk for splitting logs to fit in the trunk.
I also have the fiskars maul axe for when I have massive or stubborn rounds but love the weight of the splitting axe for everyday use. However, I recently broke the axe. I live in a rural area where I provide firewood for our local gas station, as well as run a campground where I sell firewood. I also use firewood for heat in the shop. Can I go into any retailer of this axe and get a replacement under warranty no questions asked ?
Splitting axe is perfect for my needs and handles perfecrly. One thing I was disappointed with was a sale price of same axe came available. Well i went to ask for the sale price but was refused because it was 3 weeks later. I couldnt find my receipt but My Triangle rewards showed I purchased it on August 12th and Aug 31 st it came on sale for almost 20 dollars off.I was refused the sale price. I was not happy at all. If i had found my receipt I qould have returned it and pirchased the sale price one.
Let's be real folks, you're like me not out there making a living being a lumberjack felling trees. You're throwing an axe in the back of your vehicle, setting up at a campsite and just need to split pre-cut firewood. If so I know it seems pricey but friends, this is the right tool for the job. It's lightweight for what it is and the geometry on it just slays firewood into the cuts you want. Good dry wood splits with a one-handed grip choked up on it even. I know the composite handle seems suspect, but 10 years later our first one is still going strong. Need a splitting axe? Buy this one. Don't think, just do.
This is a solid splitting axe all around.I used to have a cheap / wooden handled axe, but when the head flew off after one too many overswings I decided it was time to upgrade to something more substantial / forgiving. This axe is way lighter than what I'm used to, yet splits twice as easily... Likely due to the ergonomics / sharpness. It struggles a little bit on very big / very knotty logs, but I imagine most axes this size would. The length of the axe was the hardest decision to make since they have so many to choose from, but I'm pretty happy with the choice I made... Paired with the matching hatchet (which is also amazing) most of my household needs are met.Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. Legendary brand and quality. Fiskars! You can't go wrong. Axe is light in the hand. The steel is Fiskars steel, so you know it's good. This axe adds to my other Fiskars tools. Hatchet, maul, saw, machete, knife, ect. All great products from a great company.
Fiskars is a brand I have trusted for several years now to always deliver a quality product, and this splitting axe is no exception. The handle feels exceptionally solid, and I have actually begun to prefer a composite material for my axes and hatchets. The blade was sharp and straight, and didn't have any burrs from the factory or after several hours of use (unlike some of the cheaper axes I've used).Overall, it's well worth the money.
