Love this cab. Really has a rounded low end which is needed with such a high end amp head. Aesthetically it has that old school charm and is just a sight to behold in my rig.Perfect for home and a small gigs.

Although this amp is based on a superlead ( which I’ve owned ) it doesn’t really capture the tone. That said what it does do is so addictive. It’s very easy to go into crunch territory & it’s quite touch sensitive , which is what Marshall do best. I would recommend an attenuator as even on the 5w mode it’s loudEspecially for home use. I’ve tried single coil, P90’s & Humbuckers & this amp loves them all. Brilliant amp...love it to bits.

I was trying to decide whether to buy the fender bassbreaker 15 or the Marshall dsl20cr. I went with the fender. Bad mistake. The amp buzzed so much I had to return it. Fortunately Rick Van Heel took care of my return and hooked me up with the Marshall. He was very helpful and understanding. Now that I got the Marshall, I am glad it happened. The Marshall is a beast. The clean channel has plenty of headroom and takes petals well. The crunch channel is amazing. You don't even need a od or distortion pedal with it. The reverb is ok and usable. The only problem I have with it is the speaker. Such a great amp with such a weak speaker. Soon I will be calling Rick to hook me up with a creamback to really bring out all the potential of this beast

I bought this amp based on already owning the DSL1R head and loving it. I wanted something to replace a blues junior (which I could never easily get the sound I wanted). I haven't had the opportunity to play it loud yet, but it sounds great at lower volumes and produces a nice warm tone from something like a Hendrix "clean" to that nice crunchy Marshall distortion.I can get the sounds I want straight from the amp, where the blues jr needed pedals and still didn't sound warm to me, even with humbucker guitars.
I've had this amp for a week now, and I am very happy with it. I was looking for an amp that was louder than a "bedroom" amp, but not necessarily loud enough for gigging. This one is perfect for me. The Classic gain channel is not super clean. With single coils, it's good for Hendrix "Hey Joe" kind of sound. It can get a little cleaner if you want to sacrifice volume, though. With humbuckers, very AC/DC. The Ultra Gain Channel is what this amp is all about. Very smooth distortion, it doesn't get fizzy unless the gain is cranked pretty much all the way up, but that's a LOT of gain. With the Tone Shift switch, along with the the presence and resonance knobs (in addition to the standard high, mid, and low knobs), you have a lot of control over tone. The reverb is a ... The reverb is a little lacking, but it's usable if you're not looking for anything over the top. The option to drop to half power is great, and the tone doesn't suffer at 10w. I'm very happy with that function. My only real complaint about the amp is that I wish it had been in a bigger cab. I think it lacks some fullness, especially low end compared to other 20w amps that I have played through. I have plugged it into a 2x12 and a 4x12, and either gives it a fuller sound with a little more bottom. I am hoping to find a good size 1x12 to pair it with, I'm pretty sure that will make it the perfect home amp for me. I have played it with a full band, and had plenty of volume to be heard. I am pretty sure it would do fine in a small bar gig on it's own, but much bigger, it should do fine through the PA.
I was looking for a smaller lighter amp than my 50 watt Marshall JCM 800. At 36 lbs. this is much easier to carry around. We play smaller clubs and venues and so far the DSL 20 is plenty loud. That was definitely one of my concerns, would a 20 watt amp be enough to gig with. Yes, and I think it sounds like a Marshall should.Nice crunchy clean channel and really nice gain channel. Foot switchable channels, FX loop, decent reverb,10watt 20watt switch on the front, great sound, yeah I love it!
Great for Small clubs , party's , jams, all marshal tone . Greatly improved by speaker upgrade to celestion g12h anniversary 30. Stock speaker doesn't do the amp justice. could be gainier on the clean side. Still sounds great , I make up the gain by playing more aggressive rhythm .I also have the 40 model which has a larger cab and more bottom so I am in some way unconciencly comparing the 2. The 20 drips with that thick marshall sugar and is plenty loud.they got this so right. Best marshals in years for tone and features
To my ears at least, this amp delivers a plethora of classic Marshall tones. There seem to be a fair few guides out there for achieving specific sounds by playing with input and tone options. It cleans up nicely too. You can get that edge of breakup sound which is very sweet with single coils. I have not tried the amp with effects pedals yet. The effects loop is pretty much permanently home to a JHS little black box. That brings me to one potential deal breaker... this thing is loud. Even at 5 watts it's capable of melting faces. This may, or may not be a concern to you, but an attenuator, or a similar solution should allow you to achieve those smile inducing Marshall tones without aggravating your neighbours.
I have a collection of Marshall DSL amps so i like to compare them. I really iike this newly released Marshall DSL 20C for a portable amp. If you just want the best sound, go for the Marshall DSL 40C because it sounds fuller with more bass. But the 40C weights 50lbs, and i love mine, but i dont like to move it. On the other hand, the DSL 20C is 36lbs which is okay for me to lug around. Although for 26lbs you could get the DSL5C and that is really portable. I find that for a small bedroom size room i like the DSL 5C just fine. However the 20C has more power for a band situation, has a really nice new design for the power switch which allows you to see, or change, the power setting from the front of the amp, not the back, and it has an FX loop which is important to ... Also, the 20C has reverb and an Aux in for playing a backing track, and the footswitch is improved with the addition of indicator lights so you can tell what channel or FX loop you are on. The choice of two channels is great, they both sound good and have independent volume controls so you can set one higher than the other for a boost. Overall, i love it.
I just test drove this amp at my local GC. I plugged in with one of the store's LP Tribute model - not sure what pickups.... No matter this amp delivered 70's Marshall tone that I have heard all my life but never have been able to replicate. W/o pedals!! I own a Catalinbread DLS. This ST20C native is far better. We're taking 5 watt with plenty of headroom. Haven't even cable jumped yet!I'm convinced. I want this amp. It's far, far more to my liking than the Origin 50 I traded a few years ago.Wish it had built in reverb but that is not a deal crusher.
