I put this in to a Fractal Terra case based media machine, which would allow for this units taller 65 mm height. Performance is amazing. No one in my house can hear the fan when the media machine is powered on, and temps are showing as very low. Exactly what I expected from a Noctua HSF.

I bought this for a build in a supermicro 847 storage server chassis. Several reviews stated it fits in a 2U enclosure, but this is a lie. I mean it technically fits, but there is maybe 1/4" between the fan and the top of the case, so it's seriously starved for air. I was hitting 90C with the CPU barely working. I ended up cutting a hole in the top of the case so the cooler could breathe. With access to fresh air, CPU temps plummeted and now it barely hits 70C, even at max load. If you're building in a 2U chassis, just save yourself the headache and get the L9i instead.
I'm using this fan with the i3-6100 Skylake and an ASRock Z170M-ITX/ac motherboard. To begin, this fan does fit this ASRock motherboard, but barely. Though the fan is not forcefully pressing on the RAM stick, it certainly does look like it is touching it or perhaps there is literally only thousands of an inch of space between the two. In my system, this fan cools the i3 Skylake up to 5-6 Celsius cooler with about 500-600 RPMs less than the stock fan. My results are based on ASRock's A-Tuning software that came with the motherboard. Also, the stock fan shipped with the i3-6100 Skylake is noticeably louder. This fan comes with thermal paste, which I am using. There is enough paste for a couple of tries. As far as price, you know what they say: "You get what you pay for!" It just can't dissipate the heat fast enough and you will hit above the critical temp recommended by Intel which is 72°C. Tested mostly by playing Overwatch, Doom, Battlefield 1 & V and well the CPU's temp was always around 70-75°C and stayed above 72°C when playing for a prolonged time. It was easy to fit, not having access to the rear of the ITX Mainboard I needed to remove the board to fit the supplied backplate. The cooler on the old board (an AM2+ Athlon64 X2) crapped out and the CPU and RAM on that board was a bit too under-powered to handle the amount of traffic flowing through the gateway, so I ended up swapping some boards around to replace it with an older-model Intel quad-core. Unfortunately, the Noctua cooler that had been on the replacement board/CPU wouldn't fit in my 3U case so I needed something new. The HN-L9x65 fit perfectly on the old Noctua mount (so I didn't even have to replace the backplate) and easily fits in the case (I think it'd even make it in a 2U case, though I haven't measured). At first, I thought I had made a big mistake when I bought this. After I pulled out the motherboard from the prebuilt machine, I saw that the backplate was glued on. After hearing about a possibility, I decided to try and carefully remove the backplate. After a slow process, I managed to pry the backplate off and was able to install the heatsink. There is enough height to clear the capacitors all near the CPU. I used the included thermal paste and temps are a few degrees cooler (don't have exacts) while also being much quieter.
