I love this zester grater! Feels good to the hand, zests easy, and cleans up well. This is not a small grater which is nice zesting large lemons or other fruits. High quality. You can never go wrong with the OXO brand!

We're quite big fans of the easy-to-grip, rubbery handle style of utensils in this house, despite the higher price tags. This is a relatively fine zester that has met all my needs so far, works well, and is easier to clean than some of the others I've used. Now, I used a box grater with a "zesting" side for many years (and I use that term "zesting" loosely, because it wasn't as fine as I'd expect a true "zester" to be). So if you're making rubs, and externally-applied marinades, or throwing it into a broth for your slow-cooked lamb shanks, that's completely fine. However, when we got into making French lemon-zest flavoured cream-filled pastries, and/or Chocolatier-style activities were texture REALLY matters... or when I was making marinades that WON'T block our ... MoreWe're quite big fans of the easy-to-grip, rubbery handle style of utensils in this house, despite the higher price tags. So if you're making rubs, and externally-applied marinades, or throwing it into a broth for your slow-cooked lamb shanks, that's completely fine. However, when we got into making French lemon-zest flavoured cream-filled pastries, and/or Chocolatier-style activities were texture REALLY matters... or when I was making marinades that WON'T block our injector needle on our smoked briskets, we needed something that ground things down to a finer powder/paste to encourage "smoothness" while enhancing the aroma and flavour. So far, this fits the bill.I wouldn't go so far as to call this a micro zester, but it's more than fine enough for most things we'd do in a typical day when a grater is too coarse.SOME NOTES ABOUT THE DESIGN:However, unlike some planes/graters where the the "cutters" are shaped much like the roof of the Sydney Opera House, where the sides curve down to meet the flat zester surface, providing some protection against "heavier forces" and the resulting deformation... the cutting edges on this zester are more rectangular tabs that a folded up and out of rectangular holes. The sides of each protrusion is completely open. This means that it's possible to fold the "tabs" back/down if you grind it hard like some might on a grater. So I'd definitely recommend you scrape your food in one direction only, with very little pressure. As you should with any zester if you want it to last. Honestly, I'd humbly encourage you to start kids and other less-gentle chefs on the coarser graters where they can't do much damage, or give them a quick demonstration before unleashing them on this somewhat-more-precise/delicate implement. The tab-based design is not all bad though, those tabs make cleaning it a LOT easier because the gaps can be attacked from a variety of angles (even if it needs to be done more gently). In fact, I find running water over the grater immediately after use flushes most citrus rind debris out, and if anything has hardened on it, I soak it in a glass of water first, then run the water.. maybe use light strokes using a dish washing brush to get it clean after that. No notable damage or issues noticed so far, and I've used it about two dozen times as we preserve our Autumnal citrus harvest.I like the rubbery handle, it is easy to hold. The protective guard clips on and off quite easily, and is essential if you plan to keep this zester in a drawer.I really have no complaints about this zester at all, and it works well for the money. All the best in your zesting endeavours!

This zester is a good, decent zester, nothing particularly spectacular. This is a review for the medium zester of the crew. It provides a sizable zest where it would be visible in the food (such as cupcakes, for example), so if you want the flavor without seeing it, I would go with the fine zester over the medium one. I have large hands so the handle is comfortable for me, but I can see somebody with smaller hands struggling to hold it comfortably. The blade area is a great size, without being too bulky. The blades do have a low profile, which makes it less likely to cut you, but because of that, I had to push down on the food a little harder than I normally do with my other [smaller] zester. Overall, it does the trick.

I reviewed the OXO Good Grips Etched Zester. The product arrived in minimum packaging, which was appreciated. The zester has a terrifically ergonomic design and fits nicely even in my somewhat small hands. It feels sturdy, not at all flimsy and doesn’t bend when being used.An extremely light pressure is all that is needed to zest a lime, the tool is seriously sharp, however the teeth are so fine, ensuring finger/knuckle safety. The handle of the zester is another positive feature- offering further stability and maintaining a comfortable grip.Cleanup of the zester was a breeze, requiring nothing more than a quick dip in sudsy dishwater and a rinse.I would highly recommend the OXO Good Grips Etched Zester.
I have purposely avoided zesting or finely grating due to the pain of cleaning out the product I was previously using. After use of it today with finely grating small cloves of garlic, I have to say that I am sold on this product. Reasons why:- it is sold as a zester, but has multiple uses- the packaging is easy to open, no scissors or knives needed (fingers stay intact)- light pressure can be applied when using the zester and it works smoothly- fingers and nails stay intact when your not paying attention! (may or may not have happened to me)- cleaning it is super easy, I ran it under water and lightly scrubbed it and all the garlic came out of it- it also has a plastic shield for storageThe only downside for me, was the "non-slip foot." It was slippery on my counter, but it could also be the fact that I did not clean my counter prior to using. While I was using it I held it in the air over a bowl, so it was not a huge problem.I gave this product 5 stars because it is easy to use and no hassle. The fact that it is super easy to clean is also a game changer. I will be using all the time now, mostly for garlic.
I bought this because 1. My box grater had become dull on the zester side and 2. OXO always comes through for me.1. The zester is easier to hold than a box grater2. Excellent at making short work of zesting3. Great at grating cheeseOne thing you should be aware of is the cheese grates in very small threads, like in a restaurant application over soup or salad. So don’t expect large slivers as with a box grater.
Used it just once so far. Recent purchase. Nice quality and size. It's easy to use and easy to clean. Finally found a zester I really like. Love the cover. Great protection.
I find the smell of lemon, lime and orange zest very uplifting. I use citrus zest in a majority of my cooking and baking. One of my favorite snacks is cubed raw apple sprinkled with dried lime peel. Over the last 30 years I'd never been able to find a decent zester so I always used a small spice grater I'd been given as a gift with whole nutmegs. Using the small spice grater with citrus was awkward and often left my hands cramped. A couple of weeks ago I found this zester while looking for other OXO gadgets. I'm SO glad I decided to buy this zester because it Really works. It doesn't cramp my hand and takes just the fine, colored layer of peel off citrus fruits. I don't even have to use it with a plate under it and the zest stays on the blade instead of spread out ... MoreI find the smell of lemon, lime and orange zest very uplifting. I no longer dread having to zest as this OXO Good Grips Etched Zester saves time and strain on my already overworked hands.
I like this OXO Good Grips Etched Zester because it can be used to grate a variety of food items such as cheeses, chocolates, nuts and even some vegetables. It can zest citrus fruits as well. I like that it is lightweight, it comes with a cover that protects it when not in use. I also like that the handle and foot are non-slip and so they make it easier to quickly and accurately grate or zest any product. The "teeth or blades" of this product seem small but they work wonderfully. The product results in uniform cuts/pieces/slices, etc. It's super easy to use and the blades are sharp enough which don't require much force to be used to get effective results. I like the green and black color combination too. I'd definitely recommend this to everyone.
I use this zester for zesting & grating. I really like it. It is substantial. Makes lemons, oranges, etc no problem for recipes. I like its handle. It's a bit long but I am okay with that. I like OXO products. They donate 1% of their profits to environmental causes.
