I think where people have issues is when mixing the diff shades because that might be why it has so many mixed reviews. I think it would if Sally’s had a color theory chart for this line so we can understand the background colors of what cancels out what. ;-)... Show more

I kept on checking my hair every minutes and after 4 minutes I noticed my hair getting darker with some blue, brown & silver strands I waited a little longer up to 7 minutes and decided to remove the product, I shampooed and deep conditioned (hair is dull, straw like feels after deep condition).Since I didn't have a clear or 10N to lighten the mixture, my expectation was an overall 9ish+ ashy color with some of the original highlights being a little lighter in the 10ish scale. I ended up with a full head of ashy/beige dark blonde with no dimension, no visible highlights and to make the matter a little more disappointing, I have 2 yellowish/pale orange strands on the side (not visible unless I wear my hair up).My usually healthy hair is dry, frizzy and sick looking, straw like, after using the Sally's generic Redken EQ shade. Now I am back to frequent hair mask again.I will use Redken products again from now on till I found a good / better replacement. What this product did to my hair is similar to an hair color NOT a toner, except that the hair color would NOT have fried my hair the way Sally's generic toner did. This product is good for blonde looking to get darker hair or for any one on the dark color side with healthy hair. Can I live with the ashy beige dark blonde for the next 6 weeks? Yes - Again, the result I got could have been obtained with any 7AB or 8AB hair color.... Show more

If you like redken shades EQ, you'll like this
30 March 2023
I was excited to try since I love redken shades EQ but I can't find anywhere unless I had my professional license to purchase it. I have used redken for many years and fell in love with it, used for "glazes", "toners", gray coverage, shine boosts. So when I saw this at the Sally store I had to try it, and I will say I was pleasantly surprised! Fair warning, it was warmer than I anticipated, meaning it had alot of gold tones in it, but I was using this to cover the old highlights and get closer the natural color. So I made sure to use some gold in the formula to avoid it becoming muddy over the old highlights. I used 6G and 7NB(equal parts) applied on dry hair, going over old highlights first, then applying to natural roots. Processed for 40min (checked it half way thru to be sure it wasnt too stark or muddy) at room temp and it turned out nice and shiny. It was a little warmer than anticipated, but not horrible. I will probably just use straight neutrals next time. Curious to see how long it lasts or how it fades. Left the hair feeling nice and not tangled, JUST LIKE SHADES EQ! The o ly downfall so far is the selection of colors available...i was spoiled with the vast array of shades EQ, in all different shades and levels. This is a bit more limited, but maybe they'll expand the more popular it gets. Thanks Sally for finally getting something I love color wise!... Show more

Nope! Level 8 turned to dark brown!
7 June 2024
A few days ago, I lightened my hair to a level 8. It was a yellow blonde color and it needed to be toned. It was the color of a banana peel too bright! I spoke with the Sally's hair color consultation and she suggested 9N with a 8VB and the liquid solution. I told the consultant that I wanted beige blonde. I turned my hair to a dark brown! Pretty much back to my natural hair color. I know hair color can be a hit or miss! But, browns make me look washed out! I'm almost most in tears! Because, back in April, I cut my hair very short like (GI Jane)! And, for me the shorter the less damaged when going blonde! I purchased the blonde shampoo, conditioner, blonde hair mask and lightener! Only for my hair to be dark brown. Sheesh! Maybe, others will have better luck than I did!... Show more

7 June 2024
Two months ago I cut my hair off very much like GI Jane. Because, I knew I wanted to go blonde and with my hair texture the shorter the better. Two days ago I lightened my hair half inch to a level 8 yellow blonde. It literally was the color of a banana peel very bright yellow. I consulted with Sally's color consultant because I needed helping with picking a toner. And, I mentioned I was looking to go beige blonde. She suggested use the 8VB and 9N to cancel out the yellow/ gold tone. Today, I used 8VB(1/2) and the 9N(full bottle) with the processing liquid solution. This didn't work for me at all! And, my hair is a dark brown. I'm almost in tears because browns makes me look washed out! Pretty Close to Redken
1 June 2024
I 4have been using Redken Shades EQ Gloss for a while now to blend my gray between professional color appointments. Lately, I've had a hard time finding the color that I use. I decided to try the Generic brand. I like the product a lot! It is as easy to use as the Redken. I tried "medium neutral blonde". It is a bit darker than I expected...more like a "dark golden blonde". I left it on for 20 minutes and got good blending of my gray at the hairline. As I said, it was darker than I expected but I will leave it on for less time next time. I don't like golden undertones and prefer neutral but a little purple shampoo took it right out. The one big difference between this and Redken is that the Generic doesn't give me that glossy, shiney finish. Really pretty if used correctly
15 August 2024
If used on damp hair, it tones exceptionally well. I used it on slightly damp hair to go back to my natural dark blonde hair. 7nb on damp hair for 15 minutes. It still looks lovely, but it will fade faster. Doing a root tap or toning? Damp hair especially if its a lighter blonde like 9 or higher. My only complaint is sallys needs to offer MORE SHADES ESPECIALLY WARM TONES. I just don't understand how they brought this out and have no G, GB, or even the really cool toned glosses. More variety would be nice you know. Its been out a few years now. Would love to see more shade variety.... Show more

Turned my level 9 balayage to lvl 5
7 January 2024
Do Not use! I have a lvl 8/9 balayage with lvl 5 roots and lowlights. I used this per directions with the processing solution. 9V and 8N together since I didn't want it too ashy. Since I also didnt need a ton of toning i started my 20 mins from when i first applied it. I started below my shadow root and gradually worked my way down around my head. This product was only on my ends for 10 mins. It took all my balayage away and made my hair an all over lvl 5 with a slight lvl 6 ends near mt face where i was close to a lift of 10. It's not a bad brown. Natural with some golden warmth but not anything like a toned blonde. I have toned my hair many times in the past with other products and I have neverexperienced this. Works Wonderfully!!
25 June 2024
I had been wanting to try this product for some time, but was a little hesitant. Let me just say: this did not disappoint! I had purple manic panic on my hair that when it faded, I covered it with a 4N which turned out to look super black! Since it was way too dark for me, I used color oops which left me with a brassy very light brown/dark blonde. I purchased this in 7NB with the processing solution. Left it on for 20 mins and was left with a very shiny, dimensional brunette shade. I even called the store I purchased it from to thank the girl who helped me choose a shade! Not only was the shade and coverage perfect, but it has a perfect consistency to get even coverage. Will definitely buy this again!... Show more
