A worthy reel to last a lifetime

I have been using this reel for over 5 years now. So, I have put this reel through its paces.I use this reel for anything from surf perch to yellowtail/tuna/Durado up to 35lbs. The drag is exceptionally smooth on big fish with plenty of power. I've taken it beach fishing many times and have never dropped it in the sand but the reel has stayed very clean internally through all of it's trips. I have only oiled it after every 10+ trips and it feels smoother than the day I bought it. A fantastic reel that I know for a fact will last my life.

Have owned numerous versions and sizes of the Stradic over the years and they all get fished hard. Always 100% dependable - from Florida to Alaska - 1000 series to 6000 series - never had any issues with any Stradic. Can't say that for similarly priced reels I have purchased from their competitors. This latest version very is very smooth when reeling and the drag is outstanding whether set light or heavy. Numerous 15 - 20 lb stripers without any issues with drag fade or surging. Strongly recommend this product to anyone looking for a good all around spinning reel. Load it with 20lb or 30lb braid plus an appropriate leader and you are ready for anything from flounder to freshwater reservoir stripers to big Canadian spring pike.

Extremely fine reel, very smooth and precise

These are superb reels - perfect craftsmanship, outstandingly smooth operation and precision of operation that is maintained day after fishing day. The anti-reverse is very positive, engages instantly, and the drag is easy to adjust during a fight with a big fish. They are expensive but this is the spinning reel to get if your are an serious angler. The 2500 and 3000 models are suitable for most Canadian river and lake fishing for bass, walleye and trout, the 1500 is a pint-sized ultralight reel, the 4000 and 5000 are heavy duty models good for Musky, big Northern Pike and Pacific Salmon. My only reservation is I wish Shimano would supply a spare spool with this reel (they come with only the mounted spool). This is offset with the easily adjustable ultra smooth drag. Highly reccomended.

Great Reel
3 April 2019

I don't feel the need to review this reel for you guys. If you searched for Stradic, you know it's one of the best reels on the market and there's no complaints for me. I was definitely worried about it being fake because this is ebay and I'm honestly not sure if it is real because I'm not a pro, but if it is fake, then I got a really nice fake reel. Everything looks and feels up to par with stradics I've seen. The only sus thing about it was the paperwork. I think they accidentally put in in the paperwork for a size 1000 reel. 5/5 for sure. it's also really light so I can use it for everything. idk what else to tell you. If you're on the fence just send it.

Great reel.

I will admit that I am partial to Shimano reels. I purchased the Stradic when it was first introduced. I still own and use those reels. My high regard for the Stradic has not decreased . The new Stradic FK is a moderately priced, high quality product. Great fit and finish. Casts and reels beautifully. Smooth and plentiful drag. I only wish they made one suitable for surf casting.

Largemouth bass, Peacock bass, payara and piranah
6 April 2020

I am new to bass fishing, bought two of the 2500 for poppers and **** baits for a 3 day fishing trip to mexico, El Salto lake, caught over 100 fish on one reel up to six pounds, Lightweight, great drag and very smooth. Then took reels to Colombia fishing for peakock bass, payara and piranah. The guide told me the reel looked to small. Over the course of five days fishing caught up to 30 peacock bass up to 15 lbs, reel worked flawlessly! Plenty of drag to keep the bass from going in the shallows or wrapping around underground tree branches. Biggest Payara was 15lbs, and again, the reel stopped the fish from getting into the current and swimming off. I just could not believe how such a small, lightweight reel performed! Also, I used max quatro 30 lb for largemouth ... MoreI am new to bass fishing, bought two of the 2500 for poppers and **** baits for a 3 day fishing trip to mexico, El Salto lake, caught over 100 fish on one reel up to six pounds, Lightweight, great drag and very smooth. Rather than change out the line, I ordered extra spools from Shimano and delivered next day for free!

Love this reel
3 February 2020

I have a bunch of FK Stradics and they are the best reel you can buy for under $200 if you can still find them. They are very light, have decent line capacity and are very smooth. As you can see from the 5k has a different handle. I am not sure if I like it more then the handles on smaller reels. The other handles are comfortable. So if you're considering a 4k or a 5k that and the line capacity are the biggest differences.

Shimano The Best!
1 August 2018

Shimano stradic smooth as silk, great design spinning reel , gears drag all the best. I purchased this reel and the 3000 as well. Cast out like a dream very light and sturdy. You get what you pay for. Don't spend your money on a cheap unknown reel brands. You will have problems later and will loose a fish of a lifetime with cheaper reels. Buy this reel pull the trigger you be happy and glad ! 4000 model pictured with aftermarket power handle. Happy Fishing

The Shimano Stradic FK 5000 is a cut above normal spinning reels. Sharing a large number of characteristics with the much pricier Stella FI, it has good looks and ultra smooth retrieve and line lay. It has a rigid metal body and carbon drag discs, unlike other models in the same range. So far I've tested it on a number of hard fighting inshore pollack, though nothing over 6lb, but it has dealt with these without breaking sweat, offering the promise of similar unflappable performance when a fish twice as big comes along. I'd be happy tackling double figure pollack, bass, smooth hounds and inshore cod on this reel, in other words fish that fight fair and aren't being pursued in very strong tides using large leads. Criticisms? Not many. However I can't agree with ... MoreThe Shimano Stradic FK 5000 is a cut above normal spinning reels. Like many anglers I never did much backwinding whilst fishing, but it was handy when threading line through the rings.

Stradic 4000FK dilemma
8 June 2017

I am very disappointed with this reel. I bought it because I purchased a stradic 3000FK and love it. The stradic 4000FK is incredibly smooth and buttery out of the box. But when I put 10 lb Trielne XL on it and began casting a mepps aglia, my arm wore out in about 15 minutes. The 4000FK is super smooth when there is no load on it. But when outfitted with line and a 3/8 oz lure, retrieval is very difficult. I can't understand it because the 3000FK is wonderful.
