Great light tackle reel for bay and inshore

Bought the 4000 for our annual Florida trip. I replaced the bushings for bearings on the handle, spool support and pinion support. I paired this with the Teramar 7'4" medium, 20/b sufix 832 yellow braid and fluorocarbon leaders from 20 to 40lbs. Balances well and light. I pulled numerous snook from under the mangroves. Also locked the the drag and pulled several gag groupers out of the rocks and the reel stood up to the challenge. Used the reel hard for the ten days down there and never failed. I also used it to surf cast off the beaches with spoons and plugs. It did get splashed from the waves and at the end of the day I rinsed it and wiped it down. After the hard fishing it still feels like new and looking forward to using it again on the next upcoming trip.

I bought a 2500 last year. I have my own pond and live close to a lake. I use it for primarily bass fishing and some walleye. This reel is a very well made machine. It us silky smooth with an incredible drag system. You can really get out there with costs also. I have mine paired up fith a scheels one series medium/extra fast 7' rod and love it. I use it for all of my rubber set ups. I would not hesitate to buy another.

I bought this reel after reading a review from Smallies on the Yough Guide Service. I will be upgrading all my spinning reels to this model before next season. The wide spool makes throwing finesse baits a breeze. The drag is as smooth as butter and perfect for fighting giant susquehanna river smallmouth on light line. You will not be disappointed purchasing this reel from Fishing Online.

Still the best reel buy extant

Looks like I get to write two reviews since I have both FL 4000 and 5000 purchased here. Have noticed Daiwas on sale on both sides of the big pond (as much as 50% off if you shop Japan). What Shimano did with the new 2019 Stradic even put their $400 Sustain temporarily out of business. I'm sure we'll see competing upgrades from Daiwa soon, and and a new long-stroke Sustain that will also fit '18 Stella spools. The Stradic really comes in 3 bodies with different spools. The 1000 (and 2000 sizes in Japan) are common with 13.5 mm stroke (fits S-27 spools); the 2500 and 3000 17mm stroke (S-20 spools), 4000 and 5000 19 mm (S-28 spools). In spite of that, have my 5000 spooled with 300 yards 30-lb braid.Started with not liking the flat tee handle on my 4000 - it seemed to catch everything - so swapped the tee knob for a round Yumeya knob, and since I wanted a spare spool, anyway, found the matching Yumea 1520 spool that downgraded the line capacity - my 4000 with reduced spool capacity still holds 275 yds 15-lb braid.Awesome reels, double points at TD add up - and write those reviews.

Stradic

The Shimano Stradic is one of the smoothest reels I have used. I’ve used this reel in some tough environments here in Western Pa., from harsh winters to humid hot summers. This reel holds up well. The 2500 and 3000 models are the ones that I prefer on wading rivers because of line capacity. The 1000 model is much lighter but the line capacity falls short on longer wades. Another thing about the 2500 and 3000 model is that the handle is bigger for cranking and in swift current it sure helps having that as you fight a 20 inch bronzeback. This is a mid-range reel that works better than the price. I own the first model that came out and still use it. This reel could last a lifetime, if cared for properly. If you are planning to wade rivers this reel is for you. Wade ... MoreThe Shimano Stradic is one of the smoothest reels I have used. Super Smooth and Capable Reel

Great little reel I've paired with a 6'10" 4-8lb Samaki Gen 3 Zing. The FL stradic has to be my most used reel to date, tackling everything from squid to large salmon, snapper and snook. This has been dunked at least twice while fishing off the kayak and hasnt lost any of its out of the box smoothness. Drag works a treat on larger prey that other small 2500 may struggle with. Super quality reel that peforms like a high range model at a mid range price.

Unbelievable Power for such a small package. Bigger is not better ....

I bought the Shimano ST4000XGFL Stradic FL Spinning Reel, thinking I was going to do some inshore fishing off Marathon, mostly inshore in a place we call our honey hole. This is a once a year trip for us, and I paired the 4000 with a Talavera inshore MH rod, with 30lb power pro metered braid. I'll be honest I didn't read the max-drag specs, but did after the trip. This baby performed out of this world. Yeah, the drag is going to sing , and it did on a shark ( I think Lemon), and the biggest porgy I ever saw. I learned a lot from my trip first week of May 2021. Bigger is not always better. Since we were going to the hump, but bought seas so didn't quite make it there, but I had my tuna rig Shimano BaitRunner 12000D with 50lb braid drag set at about 15lb, and I pulled ... MoreI bought the Shimano ST4000XGFL Stradic FL Spinning Reel, thinking I was going to do some inshore fishing off Marathon, mostly inshore in a place we call our honey hole. The next day, we tried the hump, but on the way, we found a boat fuselage floating in the water, so chum chum chum chum. long story short, I caught 4 dolphin and a trigger on the 4000, and now I'm a believer in small Shimano packages. The shark video is cool, but can't upload here

What the guides use
1 October 2021

I've been a long time freshwater Shimano fan with numerous Shimano spinning reels over 5 decades. When I recently got a home near saltwater fishing opportunities, I started gathering info from various saltwater fishermen and guides on their preferred rods and reels for saltwater. Our favorite guide uses nothing but Shimano for every species and situation from inshore backwater trout and redfish to nearshore tarpon to offshore grouper and other species. This Shimano Stradic reel 3000 size is his light tackle rig setup. I'm gradually acquiring them too now for my dedicated saltwater tackle rigs for backwater. They cast great and are super smooth, reversible handles for right or left hand setup, and should withstand the saltwater environment.

but wait, it's a $200 reel. The reel take down guys on youtube seem to agree Shimano only sells 2 reels in the US: the Stella and the 2019 Stradic FL. With this reel, they've rebuilt the Stella using lower grade materials - composite flier instead of machined titanium, wear treated aluminum shafts instead of wear-proof stainless - many of the parts interchange.. Worm-gear drive, long spool oscillation for longer casts. Same overqualified roller bearing clutch, big drive gear to deliver more torque through the handle, finer and more gear teeth for less freeplay = less wear; low spindle deflection to let you use silly big drags. This is the baseline reel for anyone who truly needs to use more than 4-lb drag (a bunch if you've ever used a spring scale to set a drag). ... Morebut wait, it's a $200 reel. Can't submerge the reel overnight, but if you dunk it and keep fishing, no worries. If you really don't like the Tee handle grasp (me), easy to replace with a Yumea or JW round handle.

shimano stradic 2500 hgfl
12 June 2022

Web order 1213181Ordered shimano stradic 2500 hgfl on 16 may 2022 and received 19 may 2022. Great service from TackleDirect. However this reel had a different problem from the shimano stradic 1000 hgfl I reviewed before. This 2500 FL reel made a bearing noise. It had no grease on drive gear at all. The pinion gear had grease on very bottom next to where bottom bearing is located . Also had a huge amount of grease below the pinion gear on the main shaft assembly. Removed the grease from the pinion gear and properly greased the pinion gear and drive gear. Bearing sound greatly reduced. Handle has small amount of play not present in 1000 hgfl reel with only a slight grinding noise on top pinion gear bearing.

The Stradic reel from Shimano is certainly one of the brand's best-known spinning reels. It is sold all over the world with the same commercial success. Its name is associated with quality, robustness and reliability. In fact, even on our premises, it has been exceptional to see Stradic reels returning for after-sales service. This new Stradic FL model is based on the same principles and retains what has made its reputation, while continuing to incorporate the latest technology for even greater fishing pleasure and comfort. You'll be able to count on improved fluidity thanks to micromodule II technology and silent drive. The gears have also been improved with the Hagane concept and the frame has been fitted with X-Protect which makes it virtually watertight, making it easier to use at sea, especially as the drag is also watertight. The spool has been chosen with a large opening to give you ever greater casting distances. All these features give this reel a versatile profile that will suit the search for a wide range of predators, whether in freshwater or at sea. The variety of sizes and ratios will enable you to find the right model for everything from trout fishing to sea fishing with several dozen grams. Shimano has pulled out all the stops to successfully renew one of its flagship reels. The Stradic FL has become a real new spinning reel that you'll enjoy using.
