Posted this review for the Canon version by mistake. Reposting for the Nikon Version. I read the product information and a few reviews that said autofocus didn't work for the full zoom range of the Sigma 60-600 with the 2x teleconverter (Says manual focus only for the sigma 60-600 in the product information section on the BH website). However I already knew that the auto focus works with the Nikon 2x teleconverter and Nikon 200-500 on a Nikon Z7 so I bought it anyway hoping it also would work with a Nikon Z7, and it did! For the full 2x zoom range of 120-1200! Very happy with this product. I haven't fully tested it yet but the sharpness seems to be very good. Auto focus didn't work at all on my D850, but I am in transition from F to Z anyway. I suspect this will be ... MorePosted this review for the Canon version by mistake. I suspect this will be the case for most mirrorless cameras and auto focus at hight F stops that result from 2x teleconverter use. I will upload images after further testing. Also very happy with the Sigma 60-600.

Recently purchased from B&H and still reviewing/testing but overall it is a decent option for the money. I contacted B&H for assistance because our initial use was showing that the AF (auto focus) is lost past a specific zoom level which we didnt expect, and more importantly was never noted in the sales literature/website details.Come to find out this teleconverter only converts with AF to a point so you cant get the full 1200 factor out of the Sigma 150-600 zoom lens. I estimate you get about 60-70% of the AF function before it fails to auto focus. In talking with B&H customer service they verified that the lens and this teleconverter requires Manual focus at the higher end of zoom levels. That can be challenging as the manual focus requires allot more time to set ... MoreRecently purchased from B&H and still reviewing/testing but overall it is a decent option for the money. That can be challenging as the manual focus requires allot more time to set so might be good for landscape and stills but not wildlife or sports photography. My only complaint and reason for the 3 star rating is that this limitation is not clearly specified in the spec details. You have to either find this out via online forums or reach out to support after you have already purchased this item to get the real scoop. Still a decent add for the money but dissapointed in the lack of transparency on the limitations and that I cant get AF through the full zoom level as I expected.

I shoot with a Canon 5Ds and have been using the Sigma 150-600mm lens for my bird photography for 3 years. I recently purchased the Sigma TC-2001 2x Teleconverter to give me a little more reach when birds are far, but also when they are close to get more detail. I had to experiment with my settings and because this teleconverter makes the Sigma 150-600mm manual focus only, it takes some practice to get used to...especially since I usually don't use a tripod when shooting birds. Here is a shot I took this morning of a Black-capped Chickadee that was less than 50 feet away. This was not cropped
First, understand the impacts/compromises you'll have to make before purchasing. You will lose light x2, and yes, the focus will be noticeably slower. If you understand and accept these facts, you'll be happy. I use this on their 500mm F4, and I'm ecstatic rockin 1000mm @ F8 under the right conditions. The IQ is good and the focus isn't that slow if you have contrast in your frame. This is really true for many teleconverters. It is a worthwhile purchase being a wildlife photographer; I've successfully shot under cloudy dim conditions capturing wall hangers I'd previously have to super-crop to achieve.
I just purchased the Sigma TC-2001 2x Teleconverter to use with both my Nikon D850 and Nikon Z6ii. I've only tried it with with Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 Contemporary lens, although I can also use it with my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 DG OS HSM Sport lens. I've been trying to learn about lunar photography and using my Sigma TC-1401 1.4x Teleconverter. I saw an instant difference in the extra reach when shooting moonscapes. Yes, it will cost a couple of stops in light, but that is hardly a negative in lunar photography and the TC-2001 should be very handy when searching for raptor nests, etc., as well as capturing distant landscapes during the day.
Auto focus works in Live mode at 600mm (1200mm) but only if the subject is very brightly lit from the afternoon sun. Auto focus only works through the view finder from 150mm (300) to about 300mm (600mm) Photos are pretty sharp when well lit. Even at 1200mm. Manual focus is perfect but only with lots of practice. Excellent technique is needed not only for manual focus but also for getting the subject in the frame. Sigma Sports 150-600 becomes an f13 lens so lots of light is needed for the autofocus system. Well worth the purchase but be prepared to put in lots of time practicing long lens techniques. Upgrading from 300mm to 600mm was not easy at first but second nature after practice. Upgrading to the 2x converter is another challenge itself. I try and use it even ... MoreAuto focus works in Live mode at 600mm (1200mm) but only if the subject is very brightly lit from the afternoon sun. Bought this and the Canon version. I paired the extenders with the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary and the Sigma 70-200mm sport. Both lenses performed better on the Canon. There was less chromatic aberration and it was sharper compared to the Sigma. The other issue with the sigma is, it will not work with Canon glass. Just spend the extra money on the Canon.
I used this with a Sigma 60-600 lens on a Blackmagic Pocket 4K. The teleconverter prevents the autofocus from working correctly. I don't know if I should blame the teleconverter, the lens, or the camera for that, but regardless, it doesn't work. Also, the built-in lens stabilization goes wonky. I thought it was bad lens. It took me weeks to finally realize it was the teleconverter that was screwing up the stabilization.I used this mostly for video, which is bit more forgiving than photography in terms of sharpness. Even so, I found it too soft. I haven't checked, but you might actually get better results used an AI scaling tool like Topaz Labs Gigapixel AI instead of using this converter.I cannot recommend this equipment.
A welcome addition to my Sigma 150-600mm contemporary. This teleconverter and lens combo really needs as much sunlight as you can find to allow for the shutter speeds and aperture ranges to produce a good image. I have been able to get photos of birds at a reasonable distance wheras they would normally fly away without using it. This isn't a 1200mm prime in terms of image quality, but having the range is worth it not costing 20k compared to Canons newest prime lens. Know it's limitations, ... it is fun reaching new levels of zoom, but it can be difficult to tell if the images are in or out of focus while using the eyepiece as it is darker then normal. I still recommend it even with it's limitations. Thank you Sigma for making this 2x option on top of the 1.4 converter.
