I have sharpened many of my kitchen knives with it and I am very pleased. You can use a setting to establish a preliminary edge on a very dull knife and then finish it off with the final edge setting. This machine gives you a very sharp final edge. There is also a special track for sharpening serrated blades that I am going to use next on our steak knives. This sharpener is also going to enable me to sharpen another set of steak knives that I inherited. They really need sharpening. Considering the high cost of having knives professionally sharpened, I am confident this sharpener will pay for itself in no time. I am quite satisfied with it.

This appears to be a very good sharpener. It is harder to handle than it appears. There is a technique to the point area of the knife that I have not mastered yet. I gets most of the knife very sharp, very quickly, but as you near the tip there is less support and the tip veers into the sharpening disc and bogs it down. I believe this was due to my lack of experience in handling it. I have sharpened three knives and I believe with practice I and the sharpener will do better. I gave it four stars instead of five strictly because of this control problem near the point and no hints to control it in the instructions.

After using a manual knife sharpener forever, it took a minute to get used to this device. Once I understood how to set the knife in the channel and just glide the blade back thru the sharpener, the results were spectacular. My knives are now razor sharp again. The stow-away cord was a major selling point. I love the compact size, ease of use and GREAT sharp results. I definitely recommend this product.

Unit better suited to maintaining an edge on your knife. If you are trying sharpen neglected dull knives you will have a lot of time and effort ahead of you. I received my unit defective right out of the box. One rubber footing is missing and unit isn't stable on the counter top when in use. Contacted Milk Street right away and received a response stating that they would look into a resolution. It has been almost 3 weeks and I haven't heard anything since even after I tried to follow up with them. Only way to contact them is by E-mail. Need a telephone number so that one can talk to a person rather than have to wait.
Oh my knives are finally sharp!! So tired of trying to slice a tomato with a stick of butter…..not kidding. Even scissors are since and sharp. This sharpener is small and easy to use. Very quiet and small enough to go right into the bottom drawer. Really happy with it.
It works fairly well on long, wide bladed knives, but is almost usless on something steak knife length or less. The little abrasive wheels are not much thicker than sandpaper, and flex a lot, not removing much material. The edge left is very rough. I could do as well with a clamp and a file. The built in hone helps a little, but not much.
Where’s sharpener does not work well. there is a piece in the middle. How do you slide of knife up and down that constantly faults out of it socket, you then have to put it back yourself and hold your finger down as you try to sharpen your knife. It is very upsetting because you don’t want to get cut like I did.
I am really enjoying my knife sharpener. Living in a small town I used to have to take my knives to a fellow that scratched them up and claimed they had gouges so that he could charge me more. Now I can quickly sharpen them as needed and sharpen my scissors too. It has already saved me its price twice over in just 4 months.
I purchased this sharpener for my son (an enthusiastic home cook) for Christmas. He loves it. He sharpened my knives before heading home and I love it, too. It is easy to use, quiet, and fast. Just something that takes more time to get the hang of doing vs the knife part which was very easy.Also because of the build you cannot get the full length of the scissor blade sharpened unless you can take your scissors apart, due to handles getting in the way. There's maybe 1/2 - 1 inch or so at the bottom unsharpened. I'm okwith the results but if you need them sharpened all the way down the "V" you'll need to take them apart.
