I've been struggling to find a three-bike trunk mount bike rack for my 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Most bike racks are not compatible due to the rear wiper location. When I saw the Yakima HangOut 3 Bike Trunk Rack was compatible I purchased it immediately.Assembly instructions were overly complicated. If you have car type A, do this. if you have car type B, add these extension straps. If you have car type C, do this. I eventually figured it out.There are a total of 6 straps. Left and right top, Left and right center, left and right bottom. The hatch back of my cherokee does not have lip at the bottom and the left and right bottom straps are little hooks that can't latch onto the flat base of my trunk. I love this rack so far. It fits my Lincoln, my wife's Pontiac and even our rental Subaru last summer. The only downside to the rack is the brackets that you set the bikes frame on are able to move. This is a good thing when there are no bikes on it and you are trying to adjust where along the bar you want the bike to be. But when the vehicle is in motion, the air comes over the car and begins to push the bike closest to the car out away from the car and the brackets begin to slide out towards the other bike at the end of the bars. I solved this by using a strap to tie the top tube of my bike to the actual frame of the rack so it can't move, but before I discivered the issue my bike slid all the way to my wive's bike last year on our road trip and her pedals began ... It was hard to find a quality review for this rack, but I risked it given the sale price. I have owned the product for about 3 months now. It fits a number of types of cars and trunks (check online at the yakima site to make sure it fits your car). Fits my Ford Edge perfectly. Nice and secure. Securing the straps that wrap around the bike frame is a little challenging for these 78 year old hands, but I managed. I like how I can fold up the bars that carry the bike when they are not in use.
This is a rock solid bike rack. Easy to assemble and works quite well. But be advised that it has one serious issue. The rubber straps that hold the bikes to the frame are made of rubber, not velcro. They are almost impossible to use at first. After I read a few other reviews I realized that the specific holes, that fit whatever bike you have, will need to be stretched in order for them to fit over the locking hubs.I used needle nose pliers to both stretch and hold the holes open over a few nights. Now I can actually get the straps to work, but it will probably take a summer to get them stretched out enough so that they work well without major effort. A temporary addition to my Nissan Versa, the Yakima HangOut2 bike rack is simple to secure to the trunk, and easily removable. The 6 different hooks secure the rack & bikes from all direction to reduce shifting while in ride. I've already taken multiple trips with a full rack and always arrived safe & sound with my bikes (both worth more than the car). Highly recommend Yakima
I bought this rack about a month ago, not only was the delivery person excited to drop this off at my door but the packaging from Moosejaw was awesome. It includes a lovely personalized sticker from who sent me my gift. This made my day even brighter. The product is amazing, easy to get on and off my buggy, minimal sway and easy to install. H
This rack is very stable. The metal hooks will damage your car, and if your bike has a thick top tube it may not fit on the rack. I didn’t know what to expect because I’ve only had a hitch mounted rack in the past. This rack is super sturdy and easy to set up and take down. I currently use it on a Mazda CX3 hatchback and it fits safely and hassle free. I’m very pleased with this rack!!
Cambria was great at getting this sent out in good time. Bike rack itself good as far as trunk mounts go...always nervous will fall off but held on for our 2h drive. We have Acura RDX and have to use “anchor mount” which took me forever to figure out but ended up being very simple...upper and lower straps don't get hooked onto car - instead they just get held in by closed trunk.although it's a 3 bike rack, not sure if I'd be comfortable with 3 bikes on it at once. Each bike has 30 lb max weight and I think our bikes weigh more
