I have two, and both eventually broke in exactly the same way. The tightening knob had something snap inside that now rattles around. The knob freely spins off the screw and seems to now be cross-threaded. The rack still works, but I have no confidence in it not loosening itself.IF YOU ARE READING THIS: JUST BUY A HITCH RACK LIKE 1UP. Seriously. I get it—hitches are pricey, your car may be hard to find a hitch for, but suck it up and do it. Don’t waste money on a rooftop rack like I did. They are a pain to load and they break.

This is the first bike rack I have purchased from Yakima and I am super glad I got it. Rack is easy to install and can easily be taken off if you need space on your roof for other things like surfboards. I also purchased the locks and they work great. Easy to use rack, bike stay secure and it's quick and easy to load/ unload. Highly recommend!

I picked this up at the local REI this week. The previous reviews seemed a mixed bag so I thought I would add mine. This is a great rack. Now I prefer the old style roof mount that clamps onto the down tube but those don't seem to be made anymore. At least the ones I liked. Also I do not like the hitch mount racks because they block your view, block your brake lights, block your license plates, and are a menace in parking lots. This mounted up on my existing roof rails so easily I barely needed instructions. It clamps down tightly and securely. After mounting I put a bike in and snugged it in. Very easy, seems very secure. So long as you are tall enough to lift your bike up onto the roof this is a great rack.

I order the Yakima HighRoad and the Thule UpRide and the Yakima was way more easy to use and simple to install.
This is my second of these, I now have carrying capacity for 2 bikes on the roof of my tiny Subaru Outback Impreza Sport! I love how easy these are to put on my car and how easy it is to load/unload bikes of different sizes. The bikes are very secure up there. One downside that is based on the size of my car, the racks have to be mounted backward to let the trunk open at all (forward they extend well past the hatchback) and they still limit the trunk opening.
Easy to use, versatile rack, all around great function, a little noisy on the highway
I’ve been living with the Yakima HighRoad bike carrier for several weeks now. Gotta say that (1) Backcountry’s price, service, and shipping was great. (2) the build quality of the HighRoad is awesome, but (3) it needs more security.First, there’s the issue of the SKS cores - they really should be included. They’re not exceptional locks and it really is just an excuse for Yakima to sell more stuff. Second, there should be a lock built into the front rail/tire mount head unit thingy. Third, the locking cable is too short and dinky. I know it’s a deterrent and not a theft proof system, but it’s not very thick. The HighRoad is really easy to use, though - simple to mount to the bars and easy enough to use. I feel like I need to be about six inches taller to get my 700c’ed gravel bike onto it on top of my Outback, but that’s not Yakima’s fault.Overall the HighRoad is a really good product.
Originally wasn’t sure how secure the mountain bike would be on the roof but after receiving, was happy with it. Went on a road trip and all was secure and works well. Easy to use.
Fastened very easily to my Yakima base rack with aero bars. It’s been on for a few weeks with intermittent trips and it still feels solid. I’ve used it for 1 hour drives with my salsa journeyer on it and it felt solid when I arrived. I can’t say how well it fastens to other brands of base racks but I can’t imagine it being a problem as long as the bars aren’t massive. The rack comes with a bike lock cable that retracts into the rack which is convenient. You have to purchase the locks to use it though. With the locks, the cable works well. Good peace of mind for when you stop at a rest stop etc. Definitely on the high end for a roof top rack for a single bike so maybe wait for a sale but ultimately you can’t go wrong with this rack.
