I cannot believe how good this guitar is! It will easily hold its own against higher priced instruments. Unless you have a specific sound in mind and over $2,500 in your budget - JUST BUY THIS YAMAHA - it is unbelievably good value: The satin finish on the back of the neck makes it super easy for your hand to effortlessly slide up and down the neck and the neck shape sits in the hand well - super comfortable to work with. The Guitar is loud too - the sound projection is excellent, and I haven't even finished playing it in yet. Terrific finish, action and tone. Seriously, this guitar makes a lot of the more expensive models look and feel silly!

To be fare, I bought a cheap $60 hard shell case for it, and after owning it for about a year and 3 months I accidentally dropped it down several steps (with case) and broke at the neck. I'm a little surprised that it broke that easily, but it could be my negligence for buying a cheap hard shell case for it.Obviously, the guitar doesn't compare to high end acoustics out there, but for an inexpensive guitar I think it's very good. I mean I bought an exact same 2nd one to replace the broken one. So maybe that says something. I still give the guitar 5 stars because it doesn't blow away your bank account and still holds its own.

I would recommend if you are able, to go in and play this guitar in person. The store had several in stock and I picked the one that had the best tone, because each guitar can be different. No fret buzz. Projects very well. Lots of bass but not muddy sounding. I played 10 guitars total, from Martin, Fender, Washburn, Ibanez and Epiphone. Hands down this one met my needs. Super light. Great neck. Easy playability. I cannot speak for the electronics yet, but as a stand alone non amplified acoustic guitar, it is impressive. And for the price, well, you cannot do better.
Great guitar with a wonderful sound. Good classic looks. Pickup has a natural sound. There were a few minor issues. The nut leaning forward slightly which I found was because the nut was narrower than the slot. I replaced it with a properly fitted bone nut which improved the already great sustain. The neck was a little rough but nothing that a few swipes of 0000 steel wool couldn't fix.
This guitar is full sounding, projects well and is easy to play. I like the matte finish on the neck, feels good on your palm. The solid spruce top and scalloped bracing make this guitar very deep sounding, you can feel the resonation in your chest when you play it. Simply put: You can't do better in this price range and it even rivals higher end acoustic guitars that cost many thousands more. Thank you Yamaha for my forever guitar!
I'm backing up a woman who writes, plays a Taylor, and sings like an angel. We play at some venues that are crowded with lots of other musicians running around on and back stage. I had been playing a $3600 Martin HD-18V and was somewhat nervous about it getting damaged or stepped on. So I set out to find reasonably priced guitar with good sound. I hit all the local music stores in the Atlanta area and played just about everything on the market for under $1000. NOTHING came close to the Yamaha FSX800 and FGX800 series as far as consistency, quality, playability, or PRICE. To get a Martin or Taylor that sounded and played this good, one would have to spend at least 700, and more like $1000 to get a comparable guitar. Sound and build quality are far above other guitars in this price range. Very good electronics, as expected from a maker of high-end keyboards. No sharp fret ends that are so common on comparably-priced guitars. All this with sustainable woods -- Great job Yamaha!

Both were smaller, acoustic-electrics: a concert and a grand auditorium size. I have long arms and long fingers, so finding the right fit wasn't easy. I melt into the FG800 dreadnought perfectly. And, the sound is brilliant-fuller than either of the other two sizes. I was on the market for a Taylor and had my eyes on a taylor gs mini when I pulled this guitar off the wall and strummed it a few times and was taken back as to the clarity a full tones this guitar was giving me. Did some comparisons with the some other guitars and walked out with this Yamaha FGX800C and have been so happy with it. I play it everyday its so comfortable and I'm not struggling to hold it even though it's a dreadnought. The sound is amazing the feel is great. It's a very easy guitar to play compared to others. Over all I would highly recommend and buy again in Black next time.
