My furbaby Basil was diagnosed with kidney disease about a year ago. Since then I have been trying different types of kidney support prescribed food. Hill's is one of the best on the market from quality wise perspective. Unfortunately my cat hardly eat any of their food. The only one she tolerates is Tuna pate with vegetables. This one she agrees to eat non stop. Checken pate she doesn't touch.

This was the first cat food for kidney disease that I tried with my newly diagnosed cat, Gracie. If she would eat it, this is what I would be feeding her because it comes highly recommended by my veterinarian and the ingredients list does in fact contain the highest quality proteins and additives necessary for cats with this disease. Also, the percentages of phosphorous, sodium, and protein, which are like poison for a kidney cat, are nice and low. So, in terms of formulation, I have no complaints. The problem with this food is that my cat absolutely hates it. I can't get her to eat it, even if it's microwaved, toppers are added, etc. She won't eat any of the flavor options I have tried of the wet version of the food, including two different types of chicken and one ... MoreThis was the first cat food for kidney disease that I tried with my newly diagnosed cat, Gracie. She does however eat the dry kibble version of the hills prescription k/d diet for cats. The other problem with this food is how expensive it is, and the fact that (in the US at least), you need a prescription for your veterinarian to get it. I can barely afford these foods, and there are a lot of people out there who can't afford them at all, or the veterinarian bill just to get the prescription for these foods. It should be made much more accessible to people/pets of all socio-economic classes, as we all care for our pets and all of them deserve a high quality diet. Ingredients/formula: A Taste: D- Price: D Note: This food requires a prescription from a veterinarian and is used for chronic kidney disease in cats.

My cat LOVES this pate. She's 13 with a heart condition and my vet recommended this as a low sodium food. She also has hyperthyroidism and sometimes getting her to eat is a bit of a struggle. She never turns her nose up at this wet food! She loves the texture and taste. Will be repurchasing.

Since on Hills kidney care diet, my cat's kidney results are much better. We're using pate mainly and works for us. My cat prefers some products over other but that doesn't mean other products are not good. Don't get discouraged by other reviews like "my cat doesn't like it" because that doesn't mean there's something wrong with the product. It's just preference.
I've only had one can of this food, which I found by accident at my rabbit's vet. I shall be going to my cats' vet in the coming week, and if they don't have it, they'll need to get some for me. Both of my cats loved it - even the one who's supposed to be on Senior Vitality (but he's turning 12 next month, so if he doesn't have some degree of arthritis and kidney failure, he'll be an unusual cat). I fully expect that it will help Molly Mary with her arthritis and her early stage kidney failure (at 16 years old)
After losing his BFF to cancer, my lonely senior cat stopped eating completely. After trying everything for two weeks during which he ate a total of about 20 pieces of kibble, my veterinarian sent us home with this as his recent blood test showed the start of kidney disease. I opened this can when we arrived home and my cat gobbled it down. I stopped him at half a can as I was afraid it would be vomited back up since his stomach was unused to food by now. No problems. I gave him the other half about 4 hours later. Again, he gobbled it right up. Must taste great to him because he had not refused it. He's been on it now for about 9 days and he is looking much better and is actually playing with a toy this morning. Hope it helps his kidney disease to not progress further.
This used to be Maybe and Adelaide’s favorite KD food…until Maybe passed at 18 years old. Now Adelaide walks away from it. She is in mourning even after five months…seriously….and has lost some weight so I have switched her to KD dry food and she loves that. I will try this version again in future because it is important to give kidney disease kitties some wet food if possible. My only complaint is I wish this came in smaller cans like the Chicken and Veg Stew. My cats have always preferred straight out of a new can to refrigerated food and most kidney disease cats don’t have the biggest appetites, especially down the road a few years. It is high quality food and like I said..it had been a family favorite here for years.
I don't know for sure whether this is helping their kidneys, but the vets we have seen tell us we need to give them the k/d food, especially now with the heart meds. They wouldn't eat it a couple of years ago, but now they (mostly) love it. However, IT NEEDS TO COME IN SMALLER CANS. 5.5oz is just too much. Even covering it and storing it in the fridge it goes bad too quickly.
Our one cat was extremely sick with kidney problems, one of which was kidney stones. We put her onto a strict diet of KD and now more recently include the CD kibbles twice a week to her diet and she is doing very well. She hasn’t had any kidney issues since being diagnosed four years ago and her health has improved. Changing her diet to this product has had a huge positive impact on her health and wellbeing. She is now almost 13 years old and doing well.
I brought my dad's kitty (Coors) to the vet recently due to increased thirst, increased urination, significant weight loss, fatigue, and scruffy coat. After her blood work and urine tests came back positive for early stages of kidney disease, her doctor suggested we start feeding her Hill's k/d to bring her levels back to normal. It's been about 10 days since Coors has been eating k/d and I've noticed a wonderful change already. She's getting back to her sassy, energetic old self. She's been urinating a normal amount, she's started grooming more, she's been able to run up and down the stairs again, and her appetite has improved.I will also mention that she is a notoriously picky eater. I am so glad that just a simple change in diet has made this much of a difference for Coors in such a short period of time. I am looking forward to having many more years with her.
