Better than previous dual band extender

My old setup could not handle multiple streams at once and we experienced buffering and gaming problems.I would recommend purchasing the warranty on this Netgear product only because it’s a fairly new product without many reviews at the time of this posting. My only complaint is that you need an android device to use the Netgear WiFi Analytics app.

My youngest got so frustrated that she unplugged the nighthawk because the signal went from poor to non existent. We can’t get any help from the Netgear support options. So frustrating because we thought this would enable our children to at least keep up with their studies instead of making it impossible for them to even get online. The crux of the problem seems to be that none of our devices see the extender’s WiFi signal to connect so we can’t update the firmware that it shows it needs even though we just got it. After spending quite some time on the Netgear website reading all the troubleshooting tips, we still can’t find a solution to get this device working. The wifiext page indicates we have successfully completed installation but we can’t see the extenders signal at all. This is SO frustrating.

Everything I had hoped for.

Now that I have connected the EX7700 to my router via ethernet cable, I have great wifi everywhere. When I tried to connect to the router via wifi, I had all sorts of connection issues including connected to wifi but no internet. It also prevented me from using mac address security because my router could not fit all of the additions “modified” MAC addresses. The app was more trouble than it was worth. Can only connect if it was setup with the app. I setup my EX7700 through a browser so I now cannot use the app unless I reset the extender and start again. The app takes too long to fire up for use anyway. I’ll stick to the browser; its faster, and can be used from any device on the network. Makes more sense to me. Keeps resetting
20 May 2023

I bought this product Feb 2023.Was practically useless as an extender before I worked out how to split the 2.4ghz and 5ghz, all wireless devices kept getting kicked because the router could keepna stable connection. Once I sorted this it worked OK, however it constantly restarts making it a completely unreliable device for general use. There is little to no advise on this from netgear other than to reset or update the firmware, if neither of these solutions help, which they don't, then its a useless piece of plastic and not worth having. So for this reason it is 1 star.I also own the netgear ex6410 which I have no issues with at all, I would happily swap the ex 7700 for another ex6410 however these are no longer in general sale.

Extends wifi far away better than any other extender I've ever used. Easy to set up manually but using the app that goes with this unit was useless and I couldn't get it to work in the app at all. You can set it up manually just as fast using the WPS button and selecting your ssid . The range of this unit is superior to other extenders, it can allow me to stream movies better with the fastest speed. Highly recommend this unit and price is very fair.

Solved All Our Problems
2 November 2021

I live in an add on to the house and share the Exfinity router next door. I used a two band 2gb & 5gb extender but performance was erratic. The folks next door also experienced problems over the long haul and just lived with it, albeit unhappily. And that was weird because the router is in their living room - couldn't be any closer for them. We tried everything to boost performance but it never got any better until I installed the Netgear Nighthawk. Reception, streaming, has been flawless. It also improved it for my neighbors giving them a quick and snappy response, not buffering issues, all that. Just perfect. We couldn't be happier. So, the accompanying photo shows the location which is in my own kitchen. Amazing!

I really wasn't sure what to expect from the home Nighthawk mesh repeater system. My ISP Router is effectively at one end of my house. There is a second Netgear Access Point in the middle of my house. It solved several other issues but it has to reside on it's own unique subnet to avoid colliding with the main ISP Router subnet Adding the Nighthawk mesh router at the opposite end of my house from the ISP Router solved many issues. It is on the same subnet as the ISP Router. Setup was very easy and quick. And I am getting great signal strength from the Nighthawk (EX7700). Enough signal strength that I believe I will have an internet connection in one of my out buildings. I ran a signal/site survey in the out building and got good signal strength. But I only allow internet access on that subnet. No connections to any other devices. It solves the ipad, cell phone, internet issue. Bottom lineis I am pleased with the performance of the Mesh Router.

I bought this hoping to improve dead spots is different areas of my house. Initial setup and configuration was bumpy, but I was finally able to get it configured using the Nighthawk App. Next I moved it a short distance away on the same floor as the main router. For about an hour everything seemed fine and I was able to get better signal in every part of the house. Then all my devices started losing internet access and just disconnecting from wi-fi completely. I had to reboot everything to get connections working again. At one point I just left it on right next to the main router. I still had the connection issues. Devices in the same room right next to the extender and the main router would just lose connection and be unable to connect through to the internet. Finally, I gave up. I reset the extender to erase my data. I returned it to Office Depot. And now everything is working fine again with no dropped connections, but with those same dead zones that my main router cannot reach.I think add on extenders are a bad idea for my case. I think I would be better off with a more powerful main router or possible an integrated mesh system. Would need to research how to replace the modem/router that Spectrum provided with one of my own.

X6 extender is great
12 May 2020

We recently had to move my x4s router to the basement as we needed to make our office into a baby room. The router still works great but I noticed it did not cover my whole house using the 5G wifi. I did a lot of research and purchased X6 extender. Set up was easy using nighthawk app, all running under one network now, 5G all over the house again, 2.4 even out in the backyard which is awesome. I am happy with this as 2.4 speeds are impressive as well, (one gig internet provider). Only one small negative, when using 5g network during gaming, some games lag, which is weird because getting 600mg upload, 900mg download, I believe it might be a small firmware issue. Again 5g is super fast on everything else so in believe this bug will be fixed next firmware update... ... MoreWe recently had to move my x4s router to the basement as we needed to make our office into a baby room. If you have Netgear router, buying a mesh extender is a no brained, highly recommended!
