Cat won’t eat

I tried again the next feeding with her freeze dried chicken treats on top, still she wouldn’t eat! Brought her the Wellness and she lapped it up. My experience with this food is a huge waste of money!!! The only upside is that Chewy had it 40% off.

Half of the canned that we have open so far have been pretty dried out. My cat is not thrilled with those cans and we have to heat the food to get her to attempt to eat it. We usually don’t have to do that. The other half of the cans have been moist, and do not seem like they are old . this is very expensive food and we shouldn’t have to wonder if the can we are going to open is going to be a moist one or not. This prescription food should all be the same consistency. We had to order 24 cans at one time, so we are working our way through them but I do not feel that I will be ordering from Chewy again going forward for this food.

Once I reported the jaundice to the vet, I was given the option of purchasing the Hill's Prescription Diet. My cat enjoys the food. I have to swat my other three away from her bowl because they like it as well! The food is a pate, no gravy. The only thing I wish is for there to be smaller cans available. I find the texture (how it looks) can be a bit up and down & sometimes my cat doesn’t eat it all but lately he loves it. He had a chest infection when I first got him & despite months of treatment, the infection left him with a recurrent raspy cough. He then had signs of hyperactivity years later but years before his blood work showed signs of Hyperthyroidism & after running around, he would suddenly stop gasping. The wet food I have found sometimes reduces the blood he has in his stools which we now think is a result of the Mycoplasma we detected via a mouth swab after years of the old vets not having a clue what was wrong. Although the Mycoplasma originates from upper respiratory infections, we believe when untreated, it can cause issues elsewhere in the body. I do sometimes find he can have loose stools with the wet food but this could just be due to his other health issues. I rectify this by feeding wet YD food 2 nights and dry YD for about 3-4 nights afterwards. I would definitely recommend. The photo is after my cat had eaten some hence the food on the side of the stand

Hurray! No more nasty meds!
12 November 2022

Smokey is fickle and finicky and when we first tried this, hoping we could eliminate the trauma of forcing him to take nasty tasting meds, he turned up his nose - wouldn't even try it no matter how we presented it to him. And Chewy was awesome! They refunded our cost and we donated most of the case to a shelter - we did keep 2 cans, in the hopes that someday we could persuade Smokey to give it another try. (He was OK with the dry version, but canned food is so much better than dry, prescription or not!) Weeks went by, then we tried it again, and miracle of miracles - he ate it! And he LOVED it!!! When we tried to reorder, it was out of stock and Smokey was obviously wondering what he had to do to get the stupid humans to realize he really preferred that canned food to the dry. But now that it's back in stock, he's happy and we're overjoyed! Most important, both versions of this prescription food have been so effective in treating Smokey's hyperthyroidism that he doesn't have to take any medication, which he absolutely HATED. He's back to feelinglike his old self and being the affectionate companion he used to be.As others have mentioned, this canned food is very dry, so I mix it with distilled water to thin it down - the vet had said using distilled water would avoid contaminating the food with any undesirable elements from tap water. This has been a godsend for all of us!!!

Hyperthyroidism in Brooklyn
22 October 2023

We just discovered our cat, Brooklyn, is hyperthyroid after a visit to the vet on another issue. Totally caught us off guard! After learning our treatment options, we opted to try the diet change as we thought that would be the easiest for Brooklyn. So far, so good! Brooklyn really likes her new food and the transition was pretty smooth. Fingers crossed when we go back for a re-check on December 5th that this treatment is working. Thanks Chewey for making our prescription food search easy!

It Does Seem to Be Helping
9 August 2024

A series of blood tests by our veterinarian revealed that our 13 year old (cat) had a thyroid problem. Fortunately, our cat likes the taste of this food even though it has kind of a strange consistency. This food seemed to start helping our cat within just a couple of days. For a dog, a daily pill cn be stuff into a spoonful of peanut butter or a piece of cheese, but this doesn't work for a cat. And we did not want to traumatize her daily by jamming a pill down her thorat, so for us and our cat, this has been a perfect solution so far. (10 days into eating it). After opening, the food is supposed to be refrigerated. Our cat did not like it cold, so we do warm up her disj with hot water and use a hot spoon to mash/soften it up and take the chill off.

It does work!

So, this is not my cat's favorite food, but she will eat it. She's an only cat, so she doesn't have anything else to tempt her. But, she is also not shy about refusing food she doesn't like. So from a flavor standpoint, I would say it's average. She doesn't hate it, which is a bonus. I have had cats in the past who were pickier and understand that this diet could be difficult for them. That said... it works. I just got blood test results back from the vet after she's been on the food for about 6 weeks. She has not eaten ANYTHING else. Her levels dropped from 11 to 2. So pretty darn high to normal. She also gained a little bit of weight, which she had been steadily losing for about 6 months.Fanny had been on methimazole, but started having a bad reaction and had ... MoreSo, this is not my cat's favorite food, but she will eat it. She's 15, has asthma, an enlarged heart, and hip dysplasia, so she wasn't a good candidate for the more aggressive treatments. I know she doesn't have a lot of time left and if this food can give her an easy option to live out the rest of her days in relative comfort, I'm a fan.

Solved my cat's thyroid problem....yay!
10 July 2024

My cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and was found to be allergic to the medicine, Felimazole. So, we switched to this diet. I was so hoping it would work, as the only other option, radioactive iodine therapy, is very costly, and the nearest clinic would have been out of state. After being on this diet for 3 months, my dear Finley had repeat bloodwork today. I am thrilled to report that the vet said his bloodwork is now perfect! I am so relieved. Thank you! Like some other comments, I have found that adding just a bit of water, and cutting it into smaller pieces, heated just a few seconds in the microwave, is the way my cat likes it. He gobbles it up, and always lets me know when it's time to eat. I couldn't be happier.

Working well!
10 August 2024

Our 15 year old cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism earlier this year. We tried medication (oral and transdermal) but it caused increased vomiting. Thankfully our veterinarian suggested this food as an alternative and I’m happy and grateful to report that after two months, the cat’s bloodwork came back much improved. The thyroid level is just where it should be. We use the wet food exclusively and the cat seems to be quite content with eating it just as is. I’m also really pleased with your Autoship delivery system and of course the excellent customer service we have come to depend on. Thank you, Hill’s and Chewy!
